  1. Sure. The crown vic suspension is totally self contained. It is relatively flat where it goes under the frame rails, has a power rack and pinion set up, sway bar etc.. If your frame was the right width, you could just bolt it straight on. The pilot house frame is too narrow. By about 1 3/4 on each side. Bear with me here. SO if the frame was 2 pieces of channel like this [ ] I made it more like this ][ ][ or more accurately this I I. I bolted channel to the outside of the frame to do that, then ran the bolts through the frame/channel. When I bolted the channel on, I referenced some of the existing mounting holes (for the trans mounts etc..) on the frame to the channel, Then drilled the pieces for both sides at the same time on the drill press, so they were exactly the same side to side. I had to make some brackets at the rear of the control arms too,but that was fairly easy. I will try to post a better picture tomorrow. As for years, It was early 2000's to end of production. (2010) I'm going to guess at 2003 as the first year they were like this. I was told this one is a 2004, by the guy who sold it to me. . With this one, even the lower control arms are aluminum. I thought this was a police model feature, but it turned out to be a year thing, as the newer ones had stamped steel lower arms. I don't know when the switch to steel arms was. 2006 maybe? It's still the same otherwise, and still has an aluminum cross member etc.. It's a pretty sweet piece, but takes up some space in the garage prior to install.
  2. Yup. Crown vic. I had to put some channel onto the frame to make it wider. It's fairly simple:cool:
  3. Very very cool look to that combo. What were those old hemis rated at? would it even be 200 hp?
  4. Local paper did a write up the suspension work. It's vague, but still cool. The guy says we'll do a full write up on it, when it's done.
  5. Greetings to another Fargo guy! Get some pictures up if you get a chance.
  6. I really like the lettering on the doors man. That is very cool. I plan on putting some vintage lettering on my doors, even though I hot rodded the truck. I'm going to put my Grandfathers company name on it.
  7. How functional is the wrecker? do you ever tow with it? ie drag project cars home, etc..
  8. nice. I've often wondered why some had beds that didn't match
  9. Just curious, as I know a lot of 60's stuff was in the 3k range. What did a 48/49 b1b go for? or even a 1 ton? Any input appreciated.
  10. I've almost got mine back on the road Here's the gauges
  11. What are you using for an engine?
  12. Some pics of the suspension as it is fitted to the frame
  13. Is the Force, holding that wire up?...lol I didn't have to modify my floor, At least not there, Only the first panel down from the firewall. I'm using stock frame and a Big block/727 combo. I like the donar metal. I used part of a "autopar" tire sign for my firewall mods.
  14. They're Hoosier 29 x 11 dirt track tires. I'll need to get something dot rated pretty quick
  15. I have the old glass. It's cracked, but I tapped it up so it wouldn't fall apart. I'm not sure how I could make it work for him from here. Email me if you like dave@davesmopar.com
  16. Thanks! I moved the wheels forward for better weight distribution. It was a choice more than a need, The big truck fenders allowed for that. I could have put the suspention in the factory spot, but I used to run a race car, and thought, this is so easy to do at this point, why wouldn't I? The big truck fenders are the same length. Direct bolt in. The wheel opening is much bigger, and the flare is a bolt on. Unmodified, the flare was actually too wide and tall(it hangs below the bottom of the fender) I moved the bolt holes over, so I could move the flares in, and shortened them up. Yes, The car front is wider than the factory stuff, and it would have been a bit off with the factory fenders. Not ridiculous, but not great. As for the added material, the frame was about 2-3" too narrow. I didn't want to do a bunch of weld on stuff, as that can become questionable at safety inspection time, so I bolted channel to the frame to make it wider. I think if you look on youtube, I talk a bit about that in fargo truck tv episode 2. There is some underhood footage there. The motor goes in this weekend!
  17. Thanks. The two wheels were part budget, part necessity. Wide tires in 17 are harder to get, and expensive if you can get them. The 15's won't fit on the front because of the size of the brakes. so it made sense. The cop wheels up front were really cheap, even brand new. It will have the split windshield back in it. I have a new seal for it, just need to get the glass cut.
  18. Hi there Pilot house People. I am going to post this link to a short video walk around of my 49 Fargo. I have built it to not be a hot rod, rat rod, original, prostreet, drag, or Gmachine vehicle. It's kind of a blend of some different Genre's. The paint was done in the garage, and it has turned into a semi weathered type of look. ALL work to this vehicle was done by my Son Steven and I. Engine isn't in yet. Likely in this weekend. Mild Big Block Mopar. I figure the best place for some feedback is right here. I would like to know peoples thoughts on the look, stance, appearance. of it. Thanks I like that this board has a blend of guys. Some hot rodded, some restored etc. It's cool
