  1. I lost that piece week ago when cleaning and sealing my tank. It's easy to loose since I didn't even notice the existence before installing the line pickup pipe back into tank, and it was loose. Well trip to a local hydraulic/plumbing store saved the day, they had a hose nipple with correct thread and I was able to install new lines afterall. I secured my intank filter not to get glogged by sealer with blowing air "backwards" into pipe couple of times during first two days, thus keeping the sealer away from the filter. Seems to run now. Let's see what happens when I get it onto road for longer runs.
  2. Robin, greetings from Finland. I'm so jeaulous for your setup that I can hardly type, niiiiiiice!!! Where did you find all that stuff? Me likey likey me wanna too...
  3. Good point Marty. Hmmm... 998 and 999 will go as well :=) They are only upgraded 904's.
  4. Mysterious, ofcourse SB 727 and SB 904 have the same bellhousing bolt pattern, otherwise they wouldn't fit behind SB...
  5. Great to hear Olddaddy, will it accept 904 as well? If I remember correctly the only difference is the converter pilot diameter between earlier/later models of 904, so the later models should be applicable with 727 adapter? At the point it seems that my original setup would need so much tender, love, care and money that I'm thinking of swapping to automatic. I'd like to keep the flathead, and prefer mopar tranny behind it over GM unit. Not fanatic, I just happen to have one 904 and even a driveshaft as a spare, using those would save me a buck.
  6. I'm just curious as well, why wouldn't something that is ment to be used with converters, Dexron III that is, work with fluid drive. The other forum had info that it works just fine, and from here I have learned that tractor fluid is good. I'm not taking that chance, I will use the tractor fluid, it's even cheaper I assume. So I'm just wondering if it works or not. Pretty much the same with engine oils. Synthetics are todays tech, and still I'm not using it with old U.S flathead. But I'm interested of the tech behind, why it is not the best solution for us, even when it's "the best" available in market.
  7. What will happen with dexron III, slippage ?
  8. Carb cleaner is somewhat flammable, be careful with vacuuming it into electrical devices. There really is not any other possibility for good result other than removing the intake and soaking it. Carb cleaner is ment to be used with engine running at higher rpm and then sprayed through carb. We all know where the gunk ends up that way.
  9. Regular is $6.93 per gallon here. Welcome to enjoy. I still drive my U.S toys daily, **ck 'em with their taxation.
  10. Sooooooo true. There should be an worldwide law to force each and every old car enthusiast to tattoo that sentence in their palms! When I'm the President of the universe, I'll make that law happen. Among with that "all women has to wear skirts" law;)
  11. I have prepped two veteran tanks with this tank sealer kit U.S tank sealer When done by the instructions it works like toilets in an aeroplane. All you need is patience
  12. Thanks for the golden tips guys, rotating the engine a bit and increasing force did the job. Now the new "wrong" pump sits in place, and when I receive some carb gaskets and the tank sealer dryes later this week, it's time for some test starting and first real drives to see what else is wrong.
  13. Now that makes sence Phil, thanks a bunch. I'll use more power now that I know it is doable. This forum is UNBEATABLE!!!
  14. My bad, I misred the reference page info. Engine is P25 (stamped on block) but the rockauto.com catalog identifies 587 for 1950 truck, and thats the similar pump my car has. That led me to truck direction, just a fool I am. Now I'm totally confused, considering that P25 thing this #588 pump should fit, but it just seems not to be even close. Not by the looks of it, not by measuring and not by trying to install it. I really should change the header of this topic, I'm sorry:confused:
  15. Thanks, The cleaner one is the one I ordered, when I thought my newcoming car has original engine in it. The dirty one came out from the engine my car has, the truck model it is, and the cleaner pump does not fit, it won't go deep enough for the cam to set agains the lobe and the pump surface against the block. To my eyes the pic tells pretty much unquestionable the huge difference between these two. The correct one for my engine has the cam pointing from down to up, and the one fitting to "regular" 230cid has the cam in upper portion and it is straight. I did try to install and see whether the cleaner pump fits but no luck. Feels like it doesn't settle against the cam lobe. Ofcourse I didn't try to force it, which I usually do when running out of brain... Good thoughts, keep them coming, maybe someone has had an similar swap. EDIT Doublecheked: No, they are not interchangeable. I measured the cam contacting point distance from mounting pad, and there's apprx. 3/8" difference in length. The cleaner pump which fits passenger 230, has the longer straight cam, and cannot be installed to my P25 engine
  16. Can you please guide me to some source for information, what else is different in truck flatheads / passenger models than fuelpump. I learned today the hard way that they are not the same:mad: I ordered Airtex 588 from states two months ago. Started to change it today just to find out a no go. Surprise surprise, after digging rockauto catalog for hours it appears that my '46 D-24 has an '50 1 ton truck 230 engine, and fuel pump differs, should be Airtex 587 So I'd really like to find out what else is not interchangeable, to avoid more misorders behind Atlantic ocean, and ofcourse to find out other info such as hp etc. Your help is highly appreciated, this photo shows the difference in pump arm.
  17. Can you judge by these numbers I found from my engine whether it is 218 or 230 cid? P25 34453 (stamped on pad) A 9 16 53 (cast on head) 1405849 10 (cast on head) From the reference page I found that P25 is from 1954, but still it could be either one. Is there any other possibility to confirm than open it and measure?
  18. Greetings from Budapest. I took this one 5 min ago, it has a great contrast in it between the Trabant and that sign above it?
  19. Jack who? Nicholson? My car is so low that my jack doesn't fit underneath it, what a hassle to get it up from the grounds
  20. Shel bizzy you are the man, thanks for the pics. It seems to have FD then. Here's the hose I referred to, somebody apparently just put an fitting and stupid hose in place of the strainer. Oil filter passages have plugs in them. Maybe I should put an remote filter in there. I'm just wondering will it require block drilling and tapping since the remote sets i have seen have significally larger threads than what is in there now.
  21. Further investigation today showed that the engine at least is not original. Number on block pad says P25 34453 whic means year '54 according to reference page info. How am I able to tell whether it is 218 or 230 cid? Tranny looks like FD to me, although I can't see converter so I'm not sure yet. Took out the fuel tank and all the original tubes. Tank needs to be coated and new lines installed. Carb is an Carter B&B B6H2 which I have to find an repair kit next. There's one odd hose in the engine, it is connected to block right next to oil filler neck, but goes nowhere = plugged on the other end. Dia is quite big, like 1/2" or so. And theres no oil filter, which is not that good either.
  22. Ok Pat I was under false assumption how the FD works, and based on your description mine could still have one. But mine has reverse towards driver and up, straight down towards drivers knee from reverse, my car moves forward and you say it has nothing there in FD? Towards dash and up/down I did not even try yet. So there should be a connection from carb to tranny in FD? Vacuum hose or something mechanical?
  23. Good points Bob. I agree with the trim, the grille is so good that the sides may be as well underneath the paint. I'll check it. One possibility as a quickfix is an temporary flat paint with all shiny stainless as a contract to it. That could do as long as all the major repairs are done, and technical issues solved and puppy ready for final laquer. But we'll see how this proceeds eric w thats so encouraging, really appreciate your kind words.
