    Thanks to Brad at Vintage MoParts for a beautiful set of Stone Guards for my '47 Plymouth. They're going to look very nice - once I figure out where to drill the holes (got to find the other thread on this topic) and get them for Christmas!   6. Well, turns out Don's is NOT bigger. This unit, at 5.25", is apparently for a long block dizzy. Between that and the vacuum advance being inop, I guess it will not do. Thanks for the pic Don. Cheers!

  15. Thanks Ed and Greg. Nice to know I've got a spare on hand already! I'll start looking for parts for it. I Also have spare plugs and lights on the shelf; those are good ideas. I know there's a happy medium between too much stuff and nothing; there's also a lot of parts that you can't just walk in and pick up at the store. Cheers! John
  16. Don C. recently implied I did not have enough junk in the trunk. After my recent escapades, I plan to carry spare fuel filters. I'm thinking about adding some other spares for road trips. Any suggestions for important spares? I currently have these spares on the shelf: v-belt head gasket fuel pump starter generator Considerations to add, that I don't yet have: water pump Which brings my next question . . I HAVE a Chrysler Auto-Lite distributor, but it's a 1AT-4101C. Is this from a '54 Plymouth? Seems like the points are on the opposite side, mirror image to my current dizzy; the cap is smaller. Does the point setup mean it turns counter-clockwise and is incompatible? Is a 1AP-410A-1 compatible? I found this info on Second Chance Garage: 1946: 1GS-4207-1 (distributor rotates clockwise) 1947: 1GS-4207-1 1948: 1GS-4207-1 1949: 1GS-4207B-1, 1AP-4103-1, 1AP-4103A-1 1950: 1GS-4207B-1, 1AP-4103-1, 1AP-4103A-1, 1AT-4003 Dodge 230 1946: 1GS-4207A-1 (distributor rotates clockwise) 1947: 1GS-4207A-1 1948: 1GS-4207A-1 1949: D30: 1GS-4207B-1; D29: 1AP-4103A-1 1950: D30: 1GS-4207B-1; D29: 1AP-4103A-1, 1AT-4003 So the two I listed are 'none of the above' . . .   18. Thanks Robert, that's a good suggestion. Hose is good and firm. I'll also have to check the tank end. Just out of curiosity, why between the pump and the carb, instead of before the pump? Screen in the pump bowl looked good and the only thing in the bowl was the 'sludge' that had settled out of the fuel, leaving the remainder much more clear. There WAS crud in the filter before the pump and it's been replaced. Why am I having a nag that there is another one somewhere along the frame? I meant to look at that today. Siphoned as much fuel as I could the other day and have it settling in 5-gallon buckets. I'll uncap those in a week or two and see if I can decant off the top and slowly mix it back in. After I put the new fuel filter on the pump, I hooked up a plastic line to the filter and dropped the other end in a fresh can of fuel. Got the car fired up and it ran great with clean fuel. Go figure. I've blown out the line back to the tank and drained the last bit out of the drain plug. Pulled the fuel sender unit and found out why that wasn't working - it's frozen. I have two others that I'm going to test after I research that on the site. Looking through the sender opening I could also see the brown, goo sitting in the bottom that's causing my problems. Tank get's dropped Thursday and then to clean it out. Cheers! John

  21. I've been searching the forums the last half hour and have not found a definitive answer to . . . what did the original P15 Oil Filter/Breather Cap look like? Or is that another topic like the bypass oil filter, where it varied from time to time? I have these three: The one on the left is currently installed. Since I have a Dodge Truck Engine, it's not like it's critical or anything, but I figured since I did have three . . . Cheers! John
  22. Well, from the 'One Step Forward, Two Steps Back' annals, also known as, "Mothers, don't let your sons let their cars sit . . ." You may remember that I (among other things) recently drained the tank, filtered the drained fuel and ran it a gallon at a time through the tank, standing on the bumper and bouncing the car, before draining it back out. Despite the 'rinse' and recently filling the tank, there does not appear to be any 'driving the fuel' out. What driving I've done seems to have stirred up sediment and the fuel looks like this: New fuel pump, adding gas tank treatment and blowing the line out has not really helped. I can't even get it to idle without dying. Time to drain it all out, drop the tank and start fresh. Maybe, I can let the fuel settle for a week or two and decant something useable off the top. Off to Wally World for 5-gallon buckets . . . Cheers! John

I thought he was listed in the Links section, but could not find him. He has molds for all of the interior plastic for P15. I bought a couple of knobs from him several years ago. Does nice work.
