I want to trade out the leaky ugly dented oil pan on my 50 Dodge for one from a 37 Dodge engine. I got the old pan loose but is will not come out because the tie rod is in the way. What do I do next? I there anything else I should do or check while the pan is off? Thanks

I'm going to do a cosmetic restoration and drive the hell out of it. New paint back to the original blue-gray, new upholstery. Replace and re-chrome bright work. On the show they said "now it runs perfect" NOT. Car sat for 10 years . I had to do all the things to get it road able again, Did put wide whites on her. The car originally came out of Prattsville NY and belonged to a Michael Marsh. His daughter took it to Saint Petersburg after his death 10 years ago.

They didn't do much at all to the car and sold it for $11.500. That seems to be a good for the buyer.

A 1950 Dodge Wayfarer Sportabout Convertible is featured on the Nov.4 "Fast and Loud" TV show on The Discovery Channel. Will be interesting to see what the guys at Gas Monkey do to this rare car.

I would like to invite forum members to the 30th annual Southwest Mopar Mini-Nats, Sat. Sept 1 in Central Park in Garland Texas. I know there are 5 or 6 members in the area and it would be nice to get together and meet each other. We never get enough pre 62 cars. Most cars in the show are good daily drivers so you car doesn't have to be a "show car". For more information google Dallas Mopar Club. Here is a picture of last year. Most parking is shaded under trees.(a must for summer in Texas) Call me if you have any questions. 469 286 7879

You'll find a good replacement grommet in the plumbing dept. at the hardware store. I went through the drawers and found some real close that are used for seals in faucets. I did my headliner about 2 yeas ago. Took about 4 hours. First I put all the bows in the slots making sure they are in the right order. Start with the back one above the rear window. There should be a hook in the center to hold the bow in position. Then work your way forward keeping cloth centered on bows. Stretch cloth but not to tight. Each bow should be straight up for proper position not leaning forward or back. I put that silver bubble insulation on the roof first. My bows hit that and stayed in place. I then affixed the headliner around the front windshield. I then attached it to the back window. I know I used spray adhesive in some places and tack's in others. The window frames hide a lot. I then worked the liner into the sides under the slots. I had to cut some of the cloth tubs that hold the bows to allow for the cloth to go into the sides. You should replace the wind lace at this time if it need it. I have a 2 door sedan and had the seats out which made it a lot easer. If your seat are in, I would suggest taking them out. It's not a lot of work and things will go smoother for the headliner. Take your time and you should be able to get in. Sorry, I didn't take any picture of the steps.

I went nuts this week-end and got the '48 going 55 down hill. I think I could l have gotten another 5 mph out of her but just had to back off. It was night and the dash was glowing red.

I went to the P15-D24 web site and printed the one that was down loaded there. It printed quit clear and was free. Go to Return to P15-D24 at the top of this page. It is in the section called Downloads. With a little work it could be printed to make a book. I put mine in plastic sleeves.

Reupholstering time- how much will I need?
bobostski replied to 40P10touring sedan's topic in P15-D24 Forum
It has a skin on both sides that is very tough. On the inner foam part you can not see the air bubbles. You can barely tell it is a foam. You can not tear it like paper panels and will not crack if bent like hard plastic. You can take panel on and off the car with ease. The corplast people are talking about is like corrugated cardboard made out of plastic. It has hollow tunnels running parallel like box cardboard. The problem with it is that it likes to fold on these lines and never really straightens back out. It can be free though. When I made my panes I lightly sanded the edges as they were sharp and I didn't want the panel to cut my fabric. This stuff works great and is well worth the money. -

For the door panels, I went to a plastic supply house and got sign makers expanded PVC sheets. This comes in different thickness. " Expanded PVC sheets are probably the most versatile of all the graphics products. The ease of fabrication is why this product has shown dramatic growth. PVC foam can be cut with saws or knives, drilled, bonded by adhesives or hot air welding, heat bent or thermoformed, routed, machined, nailed, riveted etc." Went on line an found this http://www.interstateplastics.com/Dark-Gray-Expanded-Pvc-Sheet- 1/8" 4x8 $36 - 1/4" 4x8 $72 I used 1/8 or .118. I works beautifully. No worry about water. You can remove panel very easily without worry of damaging it. I went kind of wild with the fabric. I use upholstery Velvet for headliner, door panels and seats. The fabric looks more subtle in real life. Did all the sewing myself. -
If you haven't yet, you need to add turn signals while you're at it.

My car came with what I beleive is the factory rear speaker. It has a switch under the dash with 3 positions, front only, rear only, both. It used black plastic lamp type cord for conection to front. On the package tray there are about 8 randomly drilled holes to let sound out. This car has a lot of factory options. The speaker could have been dealer instaled. How many of you know what the red switch on left in the second photo is for? I twists and lights up. I thought is was a map light when I first got the car. .jpg] .jpg] .jpg] .jpg]

In what year did Mopar change from 6V to 12V in CARS ?
bobostski replied to HanksB3B's topic in P15-D24 Forum
Chevy did it in 55. -
I went to the plumbing dept. of my local hardware store and found the rubber gromets for the ends of the bows. They were about a 98% match.

I hard wired mine to the battery and put a little push switch under the dash so I can turn it on when I like. I like being able to turn it on when the car is turned off . I thougth it would be cool to get a LED Rainbow type to light to put in it so the light would change colors.

Mix formula for Haze blue from my DuPont book Haze blue # 246-81574 Duco #93-81574 Dulux White Black Ramapo Blue Ferrite Yellow They don't list % If this was 1955 you could run on down to the dealer and get this paint. They also use the same color in 51 but in 52 changed the name to Superior Blue but it has the same # This might help. Years ago I bought 2 Dupont binders with paint chips for all cars from 1946 to 1957 ish. I think I paid $5 for both. It's cool to look at the way colors change on cars from the 40's to the late 50's.

This is great. I now know exactly were to go when I need to get something from Midnight Auto Parts. I don't think anyone would want my car but I wouldn't do this if I had vintage Corvettes. Is this available for anyone to look at or only if you are a member of the board or of the map?

I had to replace the rubber gromets that hold the bow ends to the roof, I when to the plumbing section of the hardware store and found gromets that worked great. They were about .50 cents each.

My first car was a just out of high school in 1972. I bought a 1964 Chevy van. I put shag carpets, paneling and a bed platform in it. I just had to have a Hippie Van. First antique car was in 1974, a 1955 Olds 98 Holiday 4 door hardtop. Payed $75 for it running and driving great. Wisconsin car full of rust. Interior was perfect. Had a lot of fun in college in that car.

I have a friend in our Dallas Mopar Club that was on Monster Garage. One of the other countenance was Jay Leno's mechanic. He asked Bob if he would like to see Jay's garage after the show was taped. They went over there and were looking around when Jay came in. The talked a bit and then Jay invited him out for lunch. They took Jay's 53 Chry. Convertible. He said Jay was as nice as could be. The show he was on was converting a Semi into a 3 wheel cycle. He said Jesse James was a a@# hole.

P15 Seat Upholstery Fabric - need recommendations
bobostski replied to mikeww1962's topic in P15-D24 Forum
I reupholstered the car myself and used the old material as patterns and had no problems. I used cotton velvet for the head liner and had a problem of it stretching when it was installed. When I got to the front I had about 2 inches of too much fabric. I still looked ok. Next time I do a head liner I’m going to make the measurement from front to back about 1/4 inches smaller at each seam to allow for stretching. I had fun with my car and created a "Stock Rod". The car is totally stock except for paint color (yellow) and fabric. I pleated the seats just like the origanal pattern but also added buttons to the seat backs. Total interior (seats, door panels, and headliner) cost about $125 with my labor. It wasn’t that hard to sew or install so go for it. If you’re going for a 100 point show car get a professional and pay the bucks.
