Disc brakes on stock truck video
55 Fargo replied to ruff1148kr's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
Really? why is that, should not the vacuum booster have a slight reservoir, even allowing a few pumps on the brake pedal with the engine off. If this engine cannot do this, why is this the case? Yes the aftermarket vendors do not offer much, so a few have done there own. Lots continue with the single pot MC with a proportioning and residual valves in the equation. -
Flat Head 6 Engine Swap 218 to 228
55 Fargo replied to Fargone's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
Just met a gent locally, he has a 32 Chrysler with a 250 6 cylinder flathead, with a T5 trans. This car he drives all over North America, it has 150000 miles on the clock since a rebuild in 1989. He was looking at a 250 engine core I have, a very nice gent. I did not chastise him for his T5 conversion, as it works for him, he thought the A833 conversion, was another great option too. This guy drives this car all over, and great distances too, he really enjoys these engines, and would not dream of converting to a V8.. -

Well it's what suits your needs and desires, thats what it's all about. Good luck on the sale of the truck, it's in nice form y the look of the pictures lately. What might be your next project? T98A, full synchros minus 1st and reverse, shifts easily and quickly. I think Merle might have a non synchro trans, they sound cool when winding up. Power steering, don't need no stinkin power steering yet, even at 55, maybe in a few years... -

I have no trouble shifting cruising with my T98A 4 speed trans and 3.23 diff. Albeit an A833 trans would feel more comfortable, but my trans is not noisy or difficult to drive with. Listen Man, you finally got your truck running good, the bugs are out, it's working well, sure you enjoy it a lot. I know you were wanting to sell it last year, and were not super thrilled with the OEM type flathead performance, maybe all is going well now. Maybe we will meet up sometime and you can show me hos the T5 performs in your truck.... -

Again you are justifying your participation, that's fine, but after 21650 posts should I expect anything different. Yes you are a Mopar lover, remember you not being supportive of the GM 10si 1 wire alt conversion, which I am currently using. You promote the Mopar alt and regulator box. I chose the 1 wire alt for simplicity, but comparing it to the Mopar alt, it is probaly not going to last or be as well built. So yes Tim, have something GM on my truck, as well as a GM electrical brake light switch, who the hell cares. You state the T5 s available, well maybe where you live, maybe not so much where I live, parts availability and such. I have recently had a PM about the T5 conversion, it's issues and ultimately the resolutions. -

You are not obligated to inform me of anything Tim, just how many T5 or any other manual trans conversions have you done on a flathead engine period? Please share with us, your knowledge and experience on the T5 or the A833 conversions. I cannot state and comment on either process, nor do i claim too, but you are giving the impression that you have this experience, so How many T5 or any other manual conversions to Mopar flatheads have you undertaken exactly? -

55 Fargo replied to Fargone's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
I never once stated I hate the T5 conversion, not ever, but the T5 conversion is just 1 option, and i am glad you are happy with yours. Tim Adams has not, and has no interest in any T5 conversion or any other manual trans conversion, just in case you didn't notice. I am sorry if you cannot handle my comments, certainly has nothing to do with you, so not sue why you are taking it personally. You have done the T5 conversion and like it great, I have no issues with that. Glad you have your truck running, and it is working well for you. You are 1 I have paid attention to on the T5 conversion, you wanna know why, CUZ YOU HAVE DONE IT. Adams has not, and never will most likely. There is a guy coming over today to buy my 250 rebuilder core, he already has a T5 conversion, I am not against him or putting him down, this engine will get the A833 conversion, as he is not completely happy with his T5 conversion. So 4mula keep on truckin man -
Production Cost/expense, cheaper without this feature??

Good question, and what you describe is what happens in my case too. So is it a lack or over abundance of gas. I firmly believe both are possible. I firmly believe the gas gets boiled right out of the bowl, and no fuel is getting there, until things cool down, or fuel is eventually pumped up. The electric fuel pump guys rarely complain about this, must be a reason. At any rate, hard starts can be a pain, but when things get really hot, ambient temp, very hot underhood temps, come off the exit ramp or highway, and drive slowly through city traffic or wait at a stop light, and the fuel delivery might get impaired. Very good topic, even if there are those who claim no such thing as "vapor lock"......

Yup gotta agree, going over 70-75 would be interesting in my old heap. Whether you stay with the 4spd FD, or convert is up to you. Sounds like you can make it work for you as it is.... -

Are you suggesting violence Jeff? use whatever trans you prefer, by all means, some prefer GM products, Some Ford Some Mopar, The OP was enquiring about the infamous T5 trans, I then suggested before he gets all "Gung Ho" that maybe he should consider other options, namely Mopar A833 option, a very simple transplant with the adapter plate. This thread quickly become the "Gun Fight at OK Corral", hey all of you T5 converts, Great, you have done it, it works for you, keep on keepin on. But the OP appears to be aware of the T5 limitations, the A833 superior qualities and strength. I have no trouble with any type of conversion or modifications, wonder why some do? Hope the OP, sees the humour in all of this and continues to be a part of this forum.... -

No Don and John, the A833 trans swap has never happened, never been documented, just never happened Don, feel better now................LOL -
Just a FYI, George Asche, can make yours a true split divided set, either with the centre heatriser section, or 2 halves your choice, super quality experienced work, George is 84 YO, and is still making these and building engines. Before you make a decision, PM Tim Kingsbury, he and George can give you a price and what to expect for turn around time, he rebuilds the carbs and makes super quality carb linkages too, if you are going the dual carb route. As mentioned, you can go this route, or Rusty Hope, or do it yourself, but the price to have say George do it, is quite reasonable, as I am sure the others are too..
-
Now there is another good idea, Andy. Did you notice a nice boost in power when you added everything onto this engine? What engine are/were you running, 201,218, 230? Won't be long and going dual/dual on my Fargo truck, can hardly wait to see how difference it makes.......
-
Yes Charlie is aka Oldaddy http://rustyhope.com/site/ or call George Asche, the Chrysler Flathead Guru @814-354-2621
-
Moose does nice work, dual/dual setup, $400 approximate price, but sounds like OP wants his stock converted. Charlie Akers does stock conversions, and also sells a 2nd exhaust outlets for the do it your selfer. Asche, can make tru split exhaust halves, or in the whole form the exhaust manifold is truly divided, not just and 2nd dump. Any of these directions should be good to go........
-
PM Tim Kingsbury, he/they AoK Racing, will make yours into a split exhaust manifold, think it is $175 USD. It is done in Fertigs Pa, by George Asche, your intake can be done for duals too, for around the same price, he also makes linkages for dual and tri carb set-ups....good luck

Well it appears the above poster thinks the You Tube video is funny or something, never was much to watch Simpson Psychobabble, I was hoping Ed, was going to share his experience on this conversion, don't think he has completed his as of yet. I do not view Plymouth#43 as whining, or "crying over spilt milk", more of 1 persons experience with a T5 conversion, that did not go very well. Plymouth#43 has posted a valuable lesson, on how just because a few have done something, does not mean it is the best approach ion all cases. So thank you for sharing this, it does give the OP some info to consider with respect to the T5 conversion, saving them some potential grief in the long run. I am not against anyone's wishes to do as they wish, my only issue is when someone like Plymouth#43 tells it like it is, in their real life experience, someone who may not agree, will take offence, and get their "cornflakes" dirty. I hope this thread continues without rancor, heaven knows there has been enough of that on this board with this issue already/.... -

Before you get all Gung Ho, with a T5 swap, there are options, the Chrysler A 833 4 spd OD trans, with a lightweight aluminum adapter it is a bolt up to your bell housing, just another option if a T5 swap doesn't pan out for you. Here is a pic of the adapter plate, they are about $150.. -

My engine is a 55, and is only the 228, at least it has the 4 1/4 stroke, until I pull off the head, will never know if it is a 228 or 236. Bolted up to a 1 ton T 98 Acme 4 spd trans, and a modern Mopar 8 1/4 3.23 diff. Just got back from a drive, going down the highway nicely at 105 kmh or 65 mph, easily....PS I for a few years thought for sure my engine was a 250, but no such luck, do have a 250 engine good for rebuilding on my garage floor though. -

4 1/4 inch stroke, 3 3/8 bore, the 237 is the same except a 3 7/16 bore. Canadian built engines all 25 inch blocks, right from 201,218,228,236,241,250,265, now that is Far Out Man..... -
Hi all, went for a drive today, even had windows rolled down......
