  1. Okay buttoned most this job up, choke, is hooked up, gas pedal, all gas lines etc, coolant back in the engine. Need some new exhaust manifold flange gaskets, and a whole new 2nd exhaust to muffler, tru duals, no cross over pipe.
  2. Yes they also make brand new cast, dual/tris, for long block and shorts.
  3. Because it is made from a stock intake, so OEM hole needs to be capped...
  4. Gaskets on and a test fit, all looks good so far.
  5. A little heat and thread clean up works wonders on the special acorn shaded nuts.
  6. UPDATE: This morning drained antifreeze, as at least 1 stud was backing out, ended up with 4 backing out, all others backed off easy. I did hire out 2 years ago when I broke 3 manifold studs removing a cracked manifold set, so not bad now to remove. The local guy that did the job installed my manifold set, and did not bother to unseize the special stud nuts etc, so will do so now. Some pics..
  7. Hi Tim, when I go to install the manifold set, should I loosen the intake from the exhaust, as the same on a bone stock on install, torque intake and exhaust first, then tighten the 4 bolts attaching the 2 sections? I may take a run at this tomorrow, drop antifreeze and pull manifolds and get this party started.....LOL
  8. Good idea, not sure if the UK petrol is full of corn or not. I know we have up to 10% in regular, 5% in mid grade and none in premium, in this province. I think he needs to get it on the road and see whats what..
  9. h that's good, going over 200 would be a cause for concern, yours will most likely run 165-180 I am bettin on. The state of Kansas is approximately 800 miles due south of where I live our summers here can be hot and humid, Kansas is a lot hotter and more humid than us, so the truck temp was probably no issue...ps we can be upwards of 90f here and humid in summer, average 80 extremes 95-100 humidex to 100 every summer at least for a short while
  10. cooler weather, 160 t/stat most likely 160 to 170, 180 t/stat 180-190, this is all dependent, on outside ambient temps, engine load, highway driving high speeds, or crawling along in city traffic. Also the condition of the entire cooling system will be key. Get your truck n the road, watch the temp gauge and oil pressure, and report back what you discover, no point in chasing a problem right now that most likely does not exist. If you think it runs a little too warm, once you have it on the road, you can address it then. What part of the USA did this truck come from?
  11. Yes well idling on the driveway when it is hot out, does not allow for much air flow through the rad, and with not engine load either. I am sure it will run at a decent temp, you might have a 180 t/stat in this engine too, or perhaps no t/stat. 81 f, thats warm, is that unusual for your are this time of the year?
  12. I certainly am no expert on turbos, but with low boost, and the way you are setup, might not be a problem. You will find out soon enough once you are on the road on a regular basis burning petrol. You don't get hot weather in England do you.....LOL
  13. Certainly not built like there later 300 inline 6 with 6 mains.. While certainly a huge "cult" following, truly believe we have the best of the big 3 engines of the time, to soldier on in a modern world..
  14. Hey DB, can hardly wait, I have no idea what to expect, but I know I will like what I get. I have had a look at the engine, all the manifold stud nuts, unturn easily, ( was swapped 2 years ago) that's the good news. The bad news is 2 studs are backing out, meaning I have to drain the antifreeze. I have a great aluminum fuel block that I am coupling with a Carter glass bowl fuel filter, this will be mounted on the firewall, fuel hose from pump to fuel block and fuel hose from the block to the carbs. I am going to pick up a new gasket set and some supplies this week, and hopefully get started, I will be doing everything except the 2nd exhaust run. Deathbound, I am looking forward to your A833 swap, think you will really enjoy it, make for faster cruising, nice shifting etc. I intend to also do this swap at some future point.
  15. Yes have to concur, Ford Flathead V8s are so revered but do not hold a candle to the engineering of a Chrysler flathead 6, and Stovebolt Chevys while cool in their own right IMHO do not either have owned a few. I do look forward to seeing a video of your truck running/driving....
  16. me too, in the long run do not know what is less money, but I love these engines Rob. I really want to see what a hi-perf 265 would be like someday. I do realize, mine won't be that, but a little more power, nice sound and oohs and aahs when others see my mill. I have recently met another Mopar lover, he has a 32 Chrysler, lives near by, it has a 250 engine, a more modern trans and rearend. This gent has put on 150000 miles since 1989, has been all over North America, in the league of Chris Bamford, maybe more trips. He has only blown 1 head gasket on long road trips in all this time.
