  1. I have a 2015 Hemi Ram Crew Cab 4X4, with 8spd trans. Of course it is an easy comfortable ride compared to my 55 Fargo, but where is the fun and sense of adventure in that, some consider a little ustress okay......LOL

  3. Yes sir I agree, light trailers, he had a long block 250 with an estimated 130 hp after rebuild. I do see this as remarkable, as I am sure you do. I also posted on a local gent who drove his 32 Chrysler with a 250, T5 and 3.90 rear end, pulled a 16 foot camper trailer across the Canadian Rockies to Manitoba 1500 miles. Now this gent is not a careless dare devil by no means, this car had ample power and torque and it got the job done. Now I don't think he would want to do this on I 15 or I 5 the 210 or a lot of other LA are freeways. I think at times we underestimate these power plants and sometimes over estimate the entire vehicle. I enjoyed your posts. Yes most states and provinces over 2000 lbs require trailer brakes. This can be added easily with 12 volts, maybe not so easy on a 6 volt diet.
  4. Bob, these brutes with there havey heavy casting, water distribution tubes, going up to .100 probably would not produce any overheating problems. Poor water jacket flow, inferior rad construction, water pump issues, poor timing, certainly will. I am only stating this , looking for factual based answers and scenarios. Yes in the case of the OP, he has another potential block, and hopefully it's good. Now I may have missed the info, but what size if the engine, when measure how much over bore are we dealing with, how much cylinder taper, and how much are they out of round. How much to clean up the bores? So a lot of info missed?
  5. ggdad, while agree with your position and direction on this issue, I see no basis for any locking, with the content so far.   6. Absolutely not true at all, for example, a long block with 3 3/8 bore could go .100 over, and still be speced for .060 over 250 pistons. Going over .060 on a 3 7/16 hole is not a problem either. I am interested though on how and what you draw your experience from? I tend to believe the AoK folks who have so many years experience in building these engines. The overheating is 1 issue they say belongs to some other engines, maybe Flathead ford or Stovebolt Chevvys. IIf you are an engine builder by trade, then perhaps you can share with us data of your prementioned hypothesis. I do agree with 1 of your conclusions, these blocks are not overly scarce or rare. Again on large oversizes, .060 and bigger, the pistons are getting harder to source, getting larger PISTONS is the challenge. At any rate, not a bad practice to use and build blocks with minimal over boring for most members on this forum.
  7. Yes I agree OAD, and I should have qualified the thread to include any A833 car conversions, as they are very welcome. If you ever get pics or info on the 37 Plymouth conversion, please post and share, always interested. Oh yes the big 5 spd truck trans with an Overdrive, have never personally seen 1, but have discuss them nay times with Tim Kingsbury. If anyone should be in the "Hall Of Fame" for Mopar Flathead 6 Cylinder and custom parts including transmission options, this honor should be bestowed up George Asche Jr and The Late Mr Eddy Kingsbury, both gurus and pioneers with Mopar Performance..

Yes you are correct and any long block with an original 3 3/8 bore can easily go out .100, which incidentally would end up being 238, 250 or 265 pistons at .040 overbore, lots of room and meat to go up to .100 over on a 3 7/16 hole, pistons becomes the trick with big overbores, not overheating issues.....

Hopefully it will generate a well informed thread documenting any of those who choose to participate. The sole intention of this thread will be focused on the conversion, the actual build, and is not to be interpreted as a thread for debate on what transmission is best, or what you may like otherwise.   12. Hi all, this is a new thread created to discuss, document and share a Mopar 4 Mopar solution for a more modern overdrive trans alternative. Lets keep this civil, and learn and become more educated in the process. There are a number of individuals contemplating, or undertaking this conversion. To date I will be 1, and it will be well documented, I currently have the plate, but need a trans. I did have a trans "tentatively", but unfortunately, it was promise to another relative, so on the hunt. I have a few prospects and will report what I find. So lets enjoy this and have fun...

  15. Well you won't know until you have it apart cleaned and measured, but it might be fine. Truck is a good candidate for a nice 265 with dual carbs and exhaust....keep us posted on your progress
  16. To the OP of this thread, contact timkingsbury on this forum via PM, he can certainly direct you to parts suppliers. You can also use a later 6 cylinder engine, say a 250 for more power, better more advanced engine design too. This is f course you are not undertaking a dedicated OEM resto.....good luck
  17. What I really like is the fact, that an A833 trans is a perfect trans for this purpose. It is also a Mopar 4 Mopar solution, not a Chevrolet or Ford solution for a Mopar. The A833 trans is a lot tougher, even in the aluminum cased overdrive version, can easily handle over 400 ft lbs of torque, try that with your S10 T5 trans. Not that most will be banging gears with their T5s,especially with the light duty 218 or 230 stock combos, there are no stops on the T5 stick shift. 4.03 to 1 in 1st, even with a 3.55 will almost be like granny low in a big truck 4spd trans, just not overly practical. A Gent in my area, has a 32 Chrysler with a 250, basically a stock engine, has a T5 trans, with 3.90 gears, even with the 3.76 1st gear ratio, he often starts in 2nd gear as it is so low. Now with a 3.06 1st gear on the A833, will be fine even with 3.90 or 4.11 gears. I really do not see the need for 5 gear ranges, 3 and a 4th overdrive is more than adequate, another plus for and better than the T5 in my thoughts. The reason most are flocking to a T5 conversion, as they have been told or counselled, by the Chevy luvin crowds, the T5 was so mass produced, its a cheap solution for those who can't afford a slight bit more for quality, or who cannot get out and find them. Fargone, has just bought 3 in the Phoenix area in the past few weeks, they were mass produced too, and were ahead of their T5s time......
  18. So on the hunt for another A833 trans, may have scored 1 in Winnipeg. Will know in a day or 2. This 1 is complete with a nice shifter and is out of a 84 Dodge truck with a slant 6 cylinder. Now for my purpose a Chrysler flathead 6 engine, this is a perfect trans, the gear spreads is great, and do not have to deal with a near bull low of a NWC T5, with a gear spread that's not that great either. Overdrive (mid-1970s and newer)3.09 1.67 1.00 0.73 This will be perfect with a diff gear ratio from 3.55 to 4.11s...

I do not like the 4, I mentioned and they do not like me either, but I am not going to argue and fight with them over any nonsense at the same time. So Paul, there you have my opinion on this matter, and this is why it.s here and not on the open forum. As Tim also states there are divisive sub -cultures, and will continue to be. Not sure why that should be too much of a bother to you, as you hang ut a lot with those of my polar opposite....
  20. Yes the electrical temp senders and gauges came later, in the 50s. Unless you have a later engine and the later gauge, yours will be a mechanical gauge with capillary bourdon tube. The only part electrical will be the tiny bulb that illuminates the gauge in your dash.

  23. Not sure, was the outer chrome skin removed, was it plated , then at some point blasted and painted to deal with rust issues? I think the pic I posted sure looks like yours...
  24. Well not sure 55/56 C series hub caps, at least nothing I recognize..is the chrome stripped off and the cap painted?
  25. Jst a FYI update, now this is a rant, I have 4 members on an ignore list, but they are compelled to interfere and/or sabotage my threads, or threads I may participate in. You IDIOTS know who you are, why don't you go and play on a busy freeway or something, 99% of the time you offer nothing, man you 4 are pests, and you know exactly who you are....
