Tim Frank
SUBJECT: We got 'em too I am not sure that I have ever understood this entire Southern/Redneck "thang". It has always seemed pretty possesive to me. Switch the John Deere/Caterpillar ball cap for a toque, and swap the bottle of Budweiser for one of Molson Export, and we could be in just about any town up and down the Ottawa Valley..... And Merry Christmas too!

Jeff Ivan
I Vote Rolling Rock (The Green Bottle w/the 33) cause it's from the hills of Pennsylvania. Oh yea, and it's good! Bryan from Baltimore- FYI- I just wanted to bring you up to date on your favorite beer, since I live about 20 miles west of Latrobe, PA.The FORMER home of Rolling Rock Brewery. As of July 31,2006, The Latrobe Brewing Co. in Latrobe, PA, shut down. Nearly 300 employees lost their jobs. The Rolling Rock name, green bottle logo, recipe, etc. was purchased for approx. $80 million by the Anheiser-Busch company who also makes Budweiser, Busch, Michelob, etc. The brewery building and property was not wanted by them in this purchase. The beer that used to be "Brewed with mountain spring water in the glass lined tanks of old Latrobe", is now produced in the state of New Jersey with water drawn from the East River:mad: . Think about that next time you pop open a "33"! I am not in any way implying that there is anything wrong with the quality of the water of the East River, but given the choice of industrial polluted and discharged water purified and filtered, versus the mountain spring water of the Loyallhanna Creek, I am locally biased since I was nearly weaned on the green-bottled stuff. On the positive side locally, the City Brewing Co. of LaCross, Wisconsin has nearly finalized their commitment to purchase the former brewery in Latrobe, PA to produce beer and other malt beverages and sports beverages. Some of the employees will hopefully be back to work there soon. Most of the local smaller Mom & Pop bars have boycotted selling the new Rolling Rock beer, as have most of us former local consumers. And YES it DOES taste different now !
Merle Coggins
The City Brewing Co. of LaCrosse, WI used to be the home of G. Heileman Brewing and Old Style. When they moved out a few years ago some of the employees bought the plant and started up the City Brewing Co. I don't know the reason for Heileman pulling out of LaCrosse, but their headquarters appears to be in Milwaukee now. I think it's part of Pabst now. Tim Frank
That is almost bad enough news to ruin Christmas. There are few mass-produced beers North or South of the 49th parallel that are truly fit to drink. RR was definitely at the upper end of the scale and when it was available on tap during one of my US trips I enjoyed every drop; it was a one-fingered salute at the Millers and Molsons of the world. If you were fortunate enough to have had access to it where you live....my sympathies on your loss. For me it's kind of like losing an old friend that you never got to see as often as you'd like and now he's gone.
