hkestes41 Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 I am in the process of trying to remove the front sheet metal on my 48 P15 to do an enginge/transmission swap. Just looking for a few points of advice. 1) Should I remove the inner fenders along with the fenders, grille as a unit or should I remove the fenders and grille as a unit then remove the inner fenders? 2) Will the radiator and core support come out with the front sheet metal or will it remain and then remove seperately? 3) I have removed the bolts at the rear of the fenders into the firewall. Looked but didn't see anything bolting the inners to the frame. Where do the fenders bolt at the front? 4) Do I need to remove the panel below and in front of the radiator and the gravel pan behind the bumper before removing the fenders etc? Any help anyone could give would be greatly appreciated. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 I would remove the radiator,...else you pretty much on target...removing the hood is also an option....you will have to remove the springs...the fenders bolt to the rad support that bolts to the fromt frame ceter..access through the opening below the frame...removing the doghouse in one piece with inner fender is possible as a one man lift..must tilt a bit from the rear..car on stands and wheels off a plus....diconnect your antenna if fender mounted...front bumper and pan should also be removed... greg g Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 I believe there are only 13 or 14 bolts. maks sure you remove your rocker moundling trim as it is bolted through the front fenders. To remove it locate the clips, push down on the top of the rim with the handle of a screwdriver or a piece of wood, then pry the trim off the clip from the bottom. To put it back on hang it from the tops of the clips push down with the wood again, and then missage the bottom over the tails of the clips. Quote
hkestes41 Posted August 4, 2008 Author Report Posted August 4, 2008 Guys, Thanks for the input. The front sheet metal is now off and setting in the middle of the garage. Norm, wanted to remove it so that I could clean up the inner fenders, frame etc and put a coat of paint on it before the new engine and transmission go back in. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 I think I took off all that stuff, but left the inner fenders in place....many years ago. That way, I didn't have to take the hood springs off, as I recall. Been so long ago, hard to remember all the details. The current engine in my P15 was installed with fenders in place, hood off, radiator, etc out. Quote
