50 Dodge with gyromatic. When I take off before it reaches shifting point I hear ticking like the old days when hydraulic lifters floated out. I know I don't have hydraulic lifters. At idle can barely hear it run, no lifter noise or antthing. I cnnan't get it to make noise in nuetral with clutch in or out and slowly reving engine. Is this a quality of the fluid drive or a problem developing. Runs great shifts great. Anybody have this problem?

i don't have the "runs great shifts great" problem. wish i did. seriously though, the ticking sounds to me like one of those leave it alone things that will stay that way as long as you own the car. if it ain't broke don't fix it. my old 51 buick used to make a horrible noise in first gear. the guy i bought it from said it always did it and he never had a problem. i left it alone and drove the car for many years until i sold it. never had a problem. dennis

i have a 53 dodge meadowbrook with a gyromatic.. i bought the car and on the way home the rear driverside brake cylinder went i lost brakes blew 1 light and 3 stop signs until i finally stopped...anyway i towed the car home so this gyromatic thing i dont think the car ever shifted into the high overdrive i didnt know that i was supposed to take my foot off the gas and wait tho..however the car has been converted to 12v does that mean the auto shift wont work cause its 12v and if it will can anyone help me on how to wire it correctly as a kid had the car before me and i dont think its done right can it work with a 12v system or should i put it back to 6 i have the generator?

I am not familiar with the workings of the Semi automatic. There is a great section on the care and feeding of the M-6 Mopar Transmission on the Imperialclub web site. Also if you go to Allpar.com and search transmission there is some great info there.

Welcome to the board, if you go to the host page of this forum there is some great information on the brake system which is applicable to your car.

I don't know about the voltage but idle speed must be important. I bumped the timing up just a hair which bumped the idle up a hair. Instead of shifting around 20mph it wouldn't shift til 30 mph. I set the idle down and it was fine. Maybe your idle is just too fast.
