I am not sure what year dodge coupe I have

Based upon the front nose/grille, the trunk latch and the tail lights, that is a 1940 Dodge. Have a closer look at the serial number, it should start with a 9. Also, there should be a plaque on the drivers side of the cowl in the engine compartment which gives the model number (e.g. D14).

What are your plans for this car?

Can't resist a request to post photos of my '40. It's a D14 4 dr. sedan. Note that the coupes do not have the stainless strip around the trunk like the sedans. If you search via Google for '1940 Dodge photos' you'll find lots of photos, both original and rodded.

Keep us updated on your progress.

A guy down the street from me has a 40 4dr and it is pretty complete but not running and has a few dents. I stoped by the other day to see what he wanted and he said 4950.00 I thought it sounded a little high, what do you guys think?

Shaggy welcome to the forum. Looks like a weedwacker and a paint job will fix her right up.

Phil...I never tire of seeing pics of your car.:D

Dezeldoc... it really depends on what kind of shape its in. I have seen coupes for less than that though.

Thanks for the comments on my '40. I can assure you that the photos make it look much better than it really is. Still, it has come a long way from the field I dragged it out of in 1968 (yes it is the very same car):). Oh, and as an aside, it is not an entirely 'stock' car :D

I believe I have a 1940 dodge d-14 but I am not sure and could use some help in figuring out what I really have here the serial number is 4401680.

You have a 1940 Dodge D17, not D14.

American-built D14 models ran from 30 216 001 to 30 342 333, while the lower-priced D17 models ran from 4 349 001 to 4 415 505.

The Canadian-built Chryco products had a tag with Model No, Body No, Paint and Trim. American models did not have that tag, but most had a body number tag, in particular Briggs bodies. (Most of Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler bodies were built by Chrysler and not Briggs. In Canada all bodies were built by Chrysler of Canada.)

Bill,

That's great info. Thanks for posting. I wasn't aware that the American models didn't have the model no. tag on the firewall. And, of course I was referring to the Canadian cars when I noted above that the serial numbers started with a 9. (e.g. the Canadian made model D14's start from 9,420,231 whereas, as you state, the American D14's start at 30,216,001).
