Always wanted an overdrive for my original 41 Plymouth. Have seen them come and go over the years and never had the cash at the time to purchase one.

Not saying that I have any better resources now, but as time and popularity of these tranny's go, I am once again looking into buying one.

What is the "going price" for a complete O/D now a days?

This would have to be a unit that has all of the pieces to put in place in a car. I'm not talking a fresh re-build, but maybe just a working unit.

I'm interested in hearing from all that have their two cents worth.

Thanks for your input!

Anyone have one they wish to part with???

Again, thanks!

Prices vary widely depending on luck. Some of the best deals seem to come with a parts car still attached. I know one forum member that snagged a 230 Dodge motor for rebuilding and while he was picking it up he noticed that the seller had several transmissions and one was an R-10 OD. Motor and OD now live in his P15 coupe. He is smiling.

Dang that car is only a few miles from my parents cabin!

Dunno, how long he would have waited for me to pick it up, but I think I would have taken a chance on a $300 OD w/ car attached. My wife asked me what's next on my P15 once the much talked about upholstery is done. Probably installing a 6v alternator and my two spotlights, but an OD for the right price could easily supplant the two spotlights, esp. since I like to go on long trips. An OD could make the P15 the chosen ride cross-country instead of the '92 convertible.

There is a person in Organ who advertizes in "Hemmings" who sells a complete kit for $1600.00 with free shipping. I do not know if his transmissions are rebuilt or not.

I've been looking at that ad too. An OD is on my "must find" list. Anyone get their OD from them? Maybe "complete kit" means you get a box of parts and you have to put it together yourself!

I purchased a 1940 R-7 OD tranny from a then-local forum member about eight years ago, for $350.

It was tranny-only, had been lurking in his garage for 30-some years, etc.

It has been lurking in my garage until I finish re-building my front suspension, and accumulate the other OD components, eg: Lock-out cable, kickdown relay, etc.

You may find the R-7 OD (1939-'40) a bit cheaper than the post-war R-10 units; the R-10 seems to be the unit everyone wants these days.

A "complete" R-10 OD tranny seems to bring anywhere from $300 to $1,500 on e-bay... if you can find a parts car with factory OD for $500, then you can strip-out ALL the OD components for your project...

I'd be reluctant to shell-out more than $500 for an OD tranny of unknown condition...

If you're patient, you'll find one reasonably-priced.

Good luck !
