Guest TLPfotos Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 Hi there! I'm thinking of purchasing this truck, and wondered what a fair price is? Plus does it look like it's too rusted to become a project truck, from what I remember everything is pretty much there, engine, windows, tires, etc. Was running when the person brought it. The bed of the truck is missing a lot... Sorry photos aren't the best ... they were given to me by the grand daughter. Thanks in Advance! Tina Quote
Bob_Koch Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 The large rear fenders and the wide spread D-O-D-G-E on the hood indicate it is a 1953. Quote
Guest TLPfotos Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 Thanks Bob! They weren't sure said any where from a 1950 - 1953. Is there someway that I can figure out a fair value, for starters I'm planning on using it with my High School Senior photography. Although my better half thinks we should consider it as a project... like we have tons of time on our hands. I just hate to get started on it and find out that we can't finish it. Our oldest daughter was in Vica when she was in High school and together (we paid for it) she won region for totally stripping a golf cart, welding, painting, and skull and flames later she won region. Was heading to state when her younger sister decided to take it for a drive and wrecked it!! LOL It was a bummer.... as it was pretty costly for a golf cart!! I guess what I'm getting at is this something that is very costly to do as a project and does this truck seem to have potential from these images... Thanks, Tina Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 TLP fotos,your truck is a B4-B where B4 is 1953,B is 1/2 ton.The first vehicle serial number was #90103501.(DH-1) where D is Dodge,H is 1953,1 is 1/2 ton.Good luck. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 It looks fairly solid and a good truck to work with. It looks like it's been sitting in the weeds for quite a while. Will the engine turn over, or is it stuck? Are the running boards and cab floor solid, or rusted out? If the engine will turn, and the underside is solid, then there is much potential. Get it running... get brakes on it... spray some fresh paint on it... and enjoy. What is the current owner asking for it? I would think if you could get it for between $500 and $1000 you'd be in the ball park. Of course, the lower the better. Merle Quote
greg g Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 And it as the highly touted bullseye headlamp bulbs. Looks like driver's side is a little beat. Several folks have reported success in removing thes lenses and the affixing them to the reflectors of European style halogen conversion lamps. Like Hella, Cibie, or Bosche from the late 60's early 70's. I see sruface rust but the rest looks very solid. A good candidate for getting it mechanically sound, cleaning it up and leaving the character as it sits. Quote
Guest TLPfotos Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 Thanks Fernado, Merle, and Greg! You've been a big help! I had searched the web over it seemed before finding your site and forum. I don't think I saw very many photos of the square fenders any where, it was mostly the front end that made us think it was a 53. I'm purchasing the truck for $500, so I'm glad to know that we're in the ball park of value. I'd love for it to eventually look like the Red truck at the entrance of this website. Although I think the original color was blue. My husband said there was some rusted through areas on the driver side floor and some small spots on one of the running boards. Is this something that is difficult to overcome when looking at project vehicles? When I do my first portraits with the rust bucket, I'll post a few here. Thanks again!!!! Tina Quote
Merle Coggins Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 Excellent!! It's all repairable for a good welder/fabricator/body man, of which I am not one of them. Welcome to the Dodge Pilot-House world. You'll find more usefull information than you'll ever need here. Keep us posted. Merle Quote
greg g Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 Classic enterprises makes some sheet metal patch panel and replacemet sheet metal for older non ofrd and chevy pickups. just do a search for the name. they are good folks to deal with, I have purchased a few parts for my studebaker truck project that had a very much less auspicious beginning than the one you pictured. Also this forum is supported by a main page for both cars and trucks on that page there is a button for a suppliers list. I believe there are a couple vendors for body parts and many more for mechanical stuff. These are simple and well engineered vehicles that are failry simple to repair if you have basic mechanical ability, or want to gain some. The parts list is for the cars as the pilot house says it is under construction. Mechanical systems are quite a like, brakes and transmissions are different but many general maintainence and repair items are common to both cars and trucks. also check vintage power wagons site for parts. http://www40.addr.com/~merc583/mopar/framesets/welcomeframeset.html Good luck.
