Test drive without the front clip on?

I want to take my 47 Plymouth out for a spin before I get ready to throw the front clip on, my only concern is the battery. Where and how can I temporarily mount it? Any clever ideas would be much appreciated.

A cheap battery box from Boaters World (or equivalent) and some bungie cords would do the trick perhaps? Otherwise you would need to mount some plywood or something flat, and then the aforementioned bungie cords.

Good idea, and later if you need a durable but non-stock battery tray you can cut down the battery box and bolt it to the inner fender.

Many yrs ago i took my 40 dodge out for a spin without the front clip just after i had the engine/trans setup.......this was with the 318 poly/auto, had the exhaust mounted so it wasn't that noisy.....just the engine with the radiator, no hood,fenders,bumper.......drove it about 4/5miles around my suburb.......was young & silly.......now just silly.......tho when I first got the 318 mounted in the dodge I started it up without even the exhaust manifolds on........2foot of flame outa each port.........at 1am in the morning.......lol..........I was even younger and sillier than previously mentioned above........my neighbours loved me.......lol.........ah, the silly things of youth.....andyd

If you are really brave you can start your engine then remove the battery and secure the hot battery cable so they do not go to ground. The engine will run on generator current. This will work as long as you dont stall the engine.

The maiden voyage around the block in my '50 was without the front clip... sort of. I had the inner fenders mounted, along with the battery tray, and the hood was on the car, but nothing to latch it to.

open headers, no glass, big fun.

.................Rode my 38 Plymouth Coupe around the farm for 5 years before putting on the body....Had the battery strapped in a wooden box at the rear, running a jumper cable to the starter...
