Merle Coggins Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 What engine is in that? Looks like a /6 without the / Quote
Young Ed Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 Its the 265CI inline 6 hemi head unique to Australia. 270HP with the 6pack option which was I believe triple weber side drafts. Quote
Tony WestOZ Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 Engine looks like a 265 hemi. Australian built engine that never made it to the US. This engine will give most V8`s a scare. Shame its not original, it should have a 251 flat head with 3 speed manual box. Quote
Guest 2-26owner Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 Yea like Tony said 265's go like cut cats, most powerful six of its era, I think it used to beat the small factory eights, fireballs etc. But it seems the 251 flatties dont stay in engine bays to long down here, all I know is people keep telling me they werent too reliable? The chrysler flathead engine is one of the most reliable engines ever built. These engines where used well into the 70`s all around the world, in all sorts of applications. They would take a lot of punishment before things went wrong. Quote

You are right. These engines with the triple 45 mm side draft weber`s and a slightly modified cam could put out 300HP all day. In there day though the Ford GTHO 351 was quicker over the standing 1/4 buy a couple of tens (the Australian built GTHO at the time was the fastest production 4 door car in the world over the standing 1/4) but the Charger with its 265 was the fastest to 1/2 track. The bigger V8 just had the legs over the last half. In the world of street light racing the old 265 wipt a lot of V8`s Its a shame the Chrysler America change its mind and never imported the 265 to use in their trucks like they had intended to when Chrysler Australia built their engine plant. Lee Exline Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 I always liked this ad with the hemi 6 running red hot. It also shows the triple webber setup very well Quote
Tony WestOZ Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 I sold a set off those carbs about 2 years ago. Sometimes I wished I`d kept them, they would have looked good on a side valve. Quote
