Rodney Bullock Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Today I went to a dinner in honor of my Grandma, I picked her up in the 1940 Plymouth. Grandma is no stranger to classic cars we have been many places in my 55 chevy and she loves the power and sometimes insists that I peel out. This time we rolled in style. She was very impressed with the smoothe operation of the coupe and I could not believe she actually liked the Bus.coupe. She is a hardtop or convertible lady. She drove many Plaza, and crambrook convertibles. As I watched her sit in the seat next to me I was very glad that I built such a great car with the help of all of you on this forum. I don't know how to thank you. I had such a great time, I did not want it to end. All day there was a crowd outside of the place. PS when I went out to the car to take grandma back to her place I thought about one of the forum members that went to home depot and gave it a little gas before cranking. It fired on the first revolution. It's funny everybody clapped:cool: I wonder why? Grandma wasen't worried. Quote
oldmopar Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 It is great to give older people a ride in our cars I it brings back many pleasant memories for them. I still remember about 8 years ago when I took my mom for a ride in my model T she had a big grin and know a lot about the car she was born in 1913. Ed Quote
Niel Hoback Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 It sounds like you were enjoying the ride. Imagine how much your Grandma was. That really is the fun of these old cars, making others happy. Quote
NatesSedan Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Sounds like a good day. I am having a few issues with my car right now but it is days like those that make me plug away when things get rough in the garage. I can't imagine my grandma wanting to peel out. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Sounds like it was a very nice day, Rodney. These old cars sure come in handy for making people happy. A good story. Thanks. Quote
Normspeed Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Really enjoyed that story. Thanks Rodney. Quote
martybose Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Rodney, I can relate to your story! Yesterday I picked up my 89 year old mother to bring her to my daughter's birthday party, and she was disappointed that I didn't pick her up in my 47. I had to explain that I had the motor apart (again), then she made me promise to give her a ride once it is back together again. Marty Quote
Frank Blackstone Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 Why are you surprised she enjoyed the ride. Just because she has aged doesn't mean she lost her attitude about wanting to be sported around in a hot car. She gets all the attention of being seen and privileged to being chauffeured by a hansom young man. As I have gotten older I have noticed that my zeal and Passions are still the same and only tempered by my energy and priority decisions. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted May 5, 2008 Author Report Posted May 5, 2008 Thanks Frank, I only said that because she likes to go fast. She was pleasently surprized that I drove the 40, If I had showed up in a regular car that would have dissapointed her for sure. The more radical the better. You have to remember that my father was a great gear head and in the early days when he was experimenting with flatheads and speed equipment she bought alot of that stuff, they tested it, she is fearless. I am very proud of her attitude. She looks at me as a second generation gearhead as I have almost perfected the whole deal and the cars look good doing it. Hey and yes I had my hair cut and styled looking the part so she was into it. you gotta love those Grandma's they are price less, wait until she see's the hawk:D , PS Marty you gotta get that car back together to give her a ride, THEY NEVER FORGET! Don Coatney Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 a hansom young man. . Frank; Have you ever seen a picture of Rodney:D Rodney; Grandmas are great. Wish I still had one. Quote
eric wissing Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 You are very lucky to have your Grandmother around. I thought I was lucky to have all four of my Grandparents when I was 21 but by the time I was 25 they were all gone. You think up the questions you want to ask them when you are older and it is often too late. Rodney I thought you were one lucky SOB to have your cars but that is nothing compared to your Grandma. Burn those tires for her!! Eric Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 Saturday afternoon while the better half was working in the yard and I was cleaning up tools and getting ready to re-install the R rear tire and skirt on the car......a lady and her 7 year old daughter came walking down the street....out for a stroll. The lady asked if she could look at the Plymouth and complimented it. The top is down....and she said that she would like to some time go for a ride sitting up on the boot like a homecoming queen in a parade. Well.....we will have to see if that one works out. Have had two newlywed couples who rode up there, plus a young lady who was "Miss Galena" in a neighboring Kansas town. Also at least 3 grand marshalls in our local Christmas parade have been chaufeurred by us. We try to do a few useful, fun things when we can. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted May 6, 2008 Author Report Posted May 6, 2008 Bob, make her wish come true:) Eric, She also loves to hear it chirp second gear:rolleyes: Don, frank knows what I look like.......what's the matter jealous:D hahahahah Quote
