John Burke Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 I just picked up this pic of a neat old car and was wondering if anyone out there could id it for make and year...also does anyone reconize the building in the background? It would help me figure out where the photo was taken.....Thanks guys, John Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Don't know about the car but that building sort of looks like the building at Arlington National Cemetery. Quote

RobertKB Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Don't recognize anything except it is old. What a great picture though and sure appreciate you posting it. Someone out there has got to recognize the make of car and/or the building? This forum always seems to be able to answer these kind of questions! Quote
greg g Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Could also be Grants Tomb, Can't place the car but those swept fenders and indented radiator shell should be a good giveaway. Also still has Acetelyn lamps which means its pre 1920, Im thinking 14 or 15. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Greg, I still think that's Arlington National Cemetery. The picture of Grants Tomb has water by it and at the top just below the dome the picture John posted doesn't have the same carved ornament in the center. Arlington was actually General Lee's plantation before the civil war. As part of the surrender terms he also had to surrender his plantation to the government. If you look in the distance in John's picture you'll see what could be Lee's mansion on the old plantation. Off to the left and on top of the hill. All of Arlington National Cemetery is on Lee's old plantation. Quote
eric wissing Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Very interesting photo. I think Greg is dead on, Grant's Tomb. Not sure of the car but the Native Americans make it potentially valuable if it is an original photo. Eric Quote
1948Skip Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Look at all those Indians. Could it be a "Prairie Schooner" Skip Quote
Jim Yergin Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Norm, Just a bit of trivia about Arlington. It was actually owned by Lee's wife who inherited it from her father, George Washington's step grand-child. The government seized it during the Civil War for non-payment of taxes even though Lee tried to send payment through the lines. After the war Lee's children were compensated for the property. When it was occupied by the Union troops the commanding general directed that the gardens be used to bury Union dead so that Mrs. Lee would never want to return to the place. Jim Yergin Quote
Don Coatney Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Believe the car is a 13 model Indian Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Believe the car is a 13 model Indian Hmmm.........What made you come to that conclusion? Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 I love these quiz's... My guess would be a 1908 Packard, the typical curves on the hood/grille are a strong hint. Quote
