kdog1157 Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 sorry i posted this in wrong place before(rookie) am trying to find something to replace chrome in between rear fenders and body, any ideas folks, thanks Quote
Allan Faust Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 You can replace the chrome fender welt (which is what I believe you are talking about) with other colored or non-colored welt (I believe I sent a link about a vendor of this to Tim Adams... Tim, correct me if I'm wrong), or you can weld the fender to the body (another option). Allan Quote
Young Ed Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 It is available from several suppliers. Roberts has them. There is also someplace I cant remember that has a flexible version that looks like the chrome. Quote

greg g Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 Just a few words of warning. The stainless steel one come as a straight piece. The fenders have a compound curve on the front where it meets the flair at the bottom of the body. Bending this without crimping the stainless can be a challange if you haven't done it before. (this is what i have read and have no personal experience) It can be done but it takes a bit of patience. With the fender on the bench you need to clamp the welting to the fender as you shape it. You also need to locate and cut the holes for the mounting bolts. You can also vut "V"'s out of the fabric or vinyl to allow it to curve easier. Start witht he easier end first and go slowly when you get tot he compound curve part. Good luck. Quote
Ramon Angulo Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 I bought my fenderwelt from Andy Bernbaum. They do come in the 8 ft. lenghts, I used two. These were a pain to install. Trying to bend them to shape and line up the fender with out scratching the paint. It took a lot of patience to a few curse words to get it right. Starting on the back of the fender works the best. What I did was rivet the fender welt using very small rivets to the fender. I guess you could rivet it to the car as well. I just used a few rivets just to hold it in place while I mounted the fender.Took a while to figure it out. Hope this helps. Quote
