Heavy Flat Head Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Good Morning Students of P15-D24. This morning as promised we will have a test. This test has been changed with the wicked snow storm that tore through the Portland area last night. This test will be multiply choice on how my wife of twenty one years should drive in the snow when taking myself to the bus transfer station to catch the light rail. But first a little history of Portland: Winter has arrived with a vengeance, and the city is digging out of a massive snow storm that came through last night. This evening a more powerful winter storm will blanket the area with even more of the white stuff. We had a whopping 1” (if I stretch it) of snow last night and most likely will receive any where from two to six inches tonight. Of course this has paralyzed the outlining areas with such a heavy snow fall. Tomorrow the whole area will be a waste land of wreck and abandoned car’s. You have one hour to take this test and please no cheating by looking at the answers. Please remember that you are to take this test by yourself, which means no help Don and Norm! KNOW FOR THE TEST! 1. Do all newer cars come with anti-lock brakes a. yes b. no ANSWER: b. NO! Was I surprised when I did a brake job on our 03 caravan this last summer and it does not have anti lock brakes. It was or is still an option. 2. After reminding her that you should pump the brakes on ice and steer in the opposite direction of a skid. We are going down the main highway getting ready to take a light right onto another street. I, in a mild voice, reminder her to be careful as it could be icy. Car starts to go into a skid. What do I say? a. Honey take foot off of brake. b. I told you it could be icy! c. Let go, Let go! d. I wished I had driven to work! Answer: c. Let go, Let go. 3. What does wife do? a. Takes foot off of brake. b. Does nothing and cries! c. I wished he had driven to work! d. Let go of steering wheel! Answer: d. Let go of steering wheel. 4. AS car is sliding into curb what does wife do? a. Steers into direction of skid! b. prays c. Steers opposite of skid! d. Has already taken hands off of steering wheel and is holding seat! Answer: d. Has already taken hands off of steering wheel and is holding seat! See question 3! 5. After running into curb, what do I say? a. Honey are you all right. b. I told you to steer opposite of the skid! c. Gee we will need a front end alignment know! d. That was fun! Answer: c. Gee we will need a front end alignment know. This test should go a long way proving to the other students that even in Portland we have serve weather. Please Canada take it back. Don I hope you passed with an “A” as your grades have been on the low side as per Norm. There is prizes for getting the all the answers correct. PM me if you received a passing grade on your test and I will send you my address so you can send a self addressed stamped box for your prize. “A” will get you One cubic inch of Portland snow in a glad bag. “B” will get you ½ cubic inch of Portland snow in a store brand plastic zip bag. “C” will get you a letter stating job well done good and faithful student. “D” will get you a letter telling you that you need to do a little more home work. “F” will get a letter stating that we all hope you can get a life. Thanks for taking the time to take this most informative test that has been ever or will ever be on this site. Ed. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 A whole 1" of snow? They won't hardly break out the plows and salt trucks for that little amount. It might have looked something like this. Quote
blueskies Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 LOL... I can relate... We got 20" (twenty, yep) of snow out of the same storm. I had my wife drive my rig because it is much better in deep snow. This turned out to cause me even greater worry, as I know it will be my car instead of hers that goes into the curb... Fortunately my FJ has all the electronic wizardry that keeps it going straight when the driver is hopelessly confused. But it is possible to confuse the wizardry just enough to go into the curb anyway... It is winter wonderland here, just like the old days when it snowed like this every winter. Schools were closed county wide for the first time in many years. Avalanches all over the valley. Flatlander drivers and their cars stuck all over the place. Saw a brand new Audi sedan abandoned in the middle of an intersection this morning. Betting that it was some poor bloke's wife... Husband: "honey where's the car???" Wife: "Well, it just wouldn't go any more, so I left it there after it went over the curb..." Pete Quote
Heavy Flat Head Posted January 28, 2008 Author Report Posted January 28, 2008 A whole 1" of snow? They won't hardly break out the plows and salt trucks for that little amount. It might have looked something like this. If I would be a large strech if we had one inch were I live, more like 1/2". In Portland all they had was a dusting and up in higher elevation up to 6 inches. With any snow at all in Portland there usually will be a layer of ice under the snow. Makes for a fun time as no one around here knows how to drive on snow or ice. Even somedays driving when the sun is out is a big concern. Let the cruching continue. How did you do on the test? Do not be affaired let us know! When taking the test, just remenmber we have been together over twenty years and I still insert foot in places, just not as bad as in early years. Ed. Quote
claybill Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 wife stories....mine just bought a SPRINTER VAN...she has to use a mini stepladder to get in and out of it! she keeps it on the pass. seat. name withheld for obvious reasons!! Quote
PatS.... Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 "This test should go a long way proving to the other students that even in Portland we have serve weather. Please Canada take it back." Well, right now (12 noon) real temp is -24f, wind chill = -40f, and that's the high for the day..-40f for an overnight low...wind chill...who knows? If I knew how to send it ANYWHERE else I would!!! Young Ed Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Haha its actually nice today. High today about 40. Of course tomorrow its back to the teens and wed they are saying we might not get above 0. I'm just hoping it gets cold before it starts to precipitate. The whole rain turning to snow ice etc is nasty. Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Here in the High Desert of southern California if we get 1/2" of snow they close everything (schools, freeways, post office). Right now it's 49 with 50+ MPH winds. Dennis:o Quote
Merle Coggins Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Been hearing on the news that southern California is getting pounded with heavy rain and snow in the higher elevations. Avalanches took out a few people that were skiing? Sorry to hijack this post, but how are you folks doing down there? Quote

Don, all of us at P15-D24, including Norm, are very worried about your grades. If you do not study hard how can you get into a good field, if you do not do good at your job than no Mopar for you. The only thing left for you would be a (hard to say) ChEv or FoRd. A person with out a Mopar is a person with out sunshine. Please do not be that person, All of us here at P15-D24 school, especially Norm and Pete, are very worried for your Mopar wellfare. Ed. Quote

Going to bed early tonight to make it happen Make sure you are in bed by 7. Good luck on tommorows test. Oh yes and read up on the assagined chapters. Tip for test on Tuesday. Water pumps for Hudsons and the trucks of Studebaker. None of us here at P15-D243 school want to see you without a Mopar. Ed. Quote
Guest rockabillybassman Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 What is this snow of which you speak? And what is the white stuff in the pic with all the tracks by the blonde secretary's car? What is wind chill factor? Why does someone want to live where this snow stuff appears? Can you send me a sample (in a ziplok bag will do) so I can analyse it? Why does Don have a "pilgrum"? What is a "pilgrum"? Is it related to this snow stuff? Cancel the question about wind chill factor please. I remember when I went to Oklahoma 3 years ago in January, I found out what wind chill factor was. Funny thing was, in Anaheim, the girls were wearing bare midriffs and short shorts. So why do the Oklahoma people not move to Anaheim? Sigh.... so much to learn, so little time left..... Quote
