brian hood Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 Does anyone know the correct part # for a 6v generator on a 53 B-4 pilot House? It's a 1/2 ton SWB 216 6cyl. I bought a generator on ebay as a core. I do not want to get it rebuilt if is inncorrect. I was told it came from a 49 Plymouth. My truck has been converted to a 12v GM style alternator. Who ever done it use several ballast resistors is the circuts to get it to work. It's really more of a hack job than a good fix. Additionally, I know Where I can find the schematic. Does anyone have a good picture they would post? Please? Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 Brian, You put this on the car side of the forum. Might want to paste it over into the Pilot House side. The trucks may be different than the cars. I think it would probably work, but, just to be sure check with the truck guys. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 You are basically more interested in correct ID tag correct? Quote
Merle Coggins Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 Parts book says P/N 1257 392 for 6V 45Amp generator. Or P/N 1264 054 for a 6V 35 amp for Low Speed Cut In. This is the tag on mine. The part number doesn't seem to match that I have in the parts manual. Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 I think he said it was converted to 12 earlier and has ballast reistors for such things as iginiton, wipers maybe if electric and blower motor. Quote
brian hood Posted January 25, 2008 Author Report Posted January 25, 2008 hey, the resistors step the voltage down to a 6v. Maybe I shoud leave well enough, but I just thought that a correctly restoration on a 6v system (all things being equal) would be better for show points than a 12v hack job. If i do leave it 12v does anyone have a diagram for a CHrysler style alternator ( it just seems like the second best opition). ? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 using the Chrysler dual field with electromic voltage regulator..only way I install alternators...grab any repair book..should be diagramed for you or type it for online search..schematics should be shown..if not let me know and will try to scan something for you..
