I have a retired customer who I maintain his 1942 S10 convertible. It`s a 5th Ave. model. Very very rare car. He also had a 1942 DeSoto 3 passenger coupe, which he recently sold to a person in Norway. They are a very good looking car!

There was a 42 at the Binder Auction in Spencer last year. Lee Exline or someone else here might know what it brought. If I recall it wasn't real high but it was a bit rough too. Eric

$3500 and like most 42 Desotos that I've ever seen, the headlight doors were permanently open.

Are the headlight doors vacuum operated?

Reminds me of the '67 Tbird my dad had when I was about 6. It was my job to get out and "assist" the headlight doors so we could see at night. Once they were open, they would stay up until the lights were shut off.

To operate the headlamps you pull a handle out. The headlamps rotate open. The handle you pul out is kinda like a mopar E-brake handle. It`s got a Ivory plastic insert on the end of the handle- pretty deluxe!

The headlamp opening handle is a vertical Ivory handle with a chrome release push button shown somewhat to the left in the attached picture. This is the bet picture I have of a 42 DeSoto hood opening handle. Headlamps are mechanically linkage operated.

probably like all flip lights, They are a pain in the butt to get to work reliably in winter climates, where ice and frozen snow are a daily problem. Can't tell you how many one eyed Acuras I saw in the winter in the late 80's.
