1947 Dodge Motorola Remote Radio!

I have a strange optional 1947 Dodge Radio with a box and a 'remote' control thing that goes into the dash , the face is the size of regular radio's face and then it plugs into a box with a Motorola logo on it, it is in very good cosmetic condition, and the inside looks good, have not tested it yet. I have never seen another one like it, but, I can't use for mine so, I want to get rid of it! -$200+shipping, but, let me know if you are interested and we can work something out!

I have a Motorola radio in my P-15 that Was dealer installed. The radio is mounted on the firewall above the steering column and is cable controled by a head installed in the original radio location. The head has push buttons and knobs just like the factory radio did but controls the radio by cable connections. I would not think that this would be a rare unit and without the radio unit would be useless.

i have a box with some NOS motorola radio parts too. i believe tho it was an under the dash mount, as the dial system is small. not complete, and i dont need this either. real cheap.!

all these old radios are not at all expensive..and getting them rebuilt can be..that is why there are available at low cost. Now a reworked tested and guaranteeed operational unit can sell for a few bucks..but most non working units are CORE value only...to have one updated with CD and FM added is the best route to go for you get total compliance with todays music media but that again comes at a price. At best the unit you have has cosmetic value if super nice chrome and dial is not faded..losing its silkscreened paint.

I took my 802 radio out of my P15 coupe because it doesn't work and gets in the way when working under the dash. Replaced it with an NOS Remote Motorola Radio Head to fill up the hole in the dash. It was new in the box. Got the head in a trade for an old 40's license plate that needed restoring. So........just the radio head isn't worth all that much.

Now, if you look at some of those 30's model Ford remote radio heads, maybe it'll be worth that. Some mid to late 30's radios that don't work will go for about $500 or more. However, we are not talking that kind of radio here.

The head fits in the original spot in the dash and I have the box that it plugs into as well, that comes with it, this is an original, not parts, not a repro. It goes to a 1947 Dodge, and it is in very good original condition and the head does not have the pushbuttons, but chrome in place instead. As for the rarity, how often have you seen one? I have not seen another! But, make me an offer, I can e-mail pics. if need be, I also have a heater I want to get rid of too.

How do you know that what you have is factory original and not an aftermarket radio? Much like today aftermarket radios in the 40-50's would fit the hole in the dash same as a factory original.

Is your heater an aftermarket heater? Is it a hot water heater or a gasoline heater or do you know?

E-mail me pictures of both.

This is what the aftermarket Motorola Radio Head remote looks like. I put this in my coupe when I removed the radio to fill up the hole. There are no buttons for the dial' date=' plus there are no controls for music, mello and forgot what the other setting was in that box said on the original 802 radio. By the way, the knobs off the original 802 radio will not fit on the aftermarket head.

First picture is of the aftermarket head only. Second is the actual radio.[/quote']

Wes,

I posted the above information on another thread regarding the radios. To answer your question, "How do we know which is original." We know this because the information is contained in the original Mopar parts books for that year. All of the radios for 46 -48 Mopar that use a remote head off the box are aftermarket radios. The only original radios for 46 -48 are models 802 or 602 and are all one complete unit in one box. The only difference between the two models is the 602 has 6 tubes and the 802 has 8 tubes for better sound.

I suggest you go to the main site http://www.p15-d24.com and look at the reference section. In there you will find the correct radio and heaters.

To make it even easier here is a link to the original accessories brochure but go to the main site there is a lot of great information there
