Running pretty good, but does'nt much like going over 55-60 mph on the freeway.

Dunno about hobbits, but it wont be fully christened until the rear seat has been used for what the rear seat of American cars gets used for.... ;)

Hi Marty, waaayyyy cool !!!

Like your motor, painted black...just because its different!!

Throw a tape measure over the width (Outer edge of the drums) of your diff and let me know how wide the standard diff is, it may be a candidate for the Ford Falcon swap-over. Then you're up to 70mph no sweat !

Whangamata Beach Hop 2008 ???

Hi Dave, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. As far as I can gauge with the wheels on, it looks to be about 56". What ratio is the Falcon? Are you using 15" rims on yours? I think Falcons come with 14" rims from memory.

Hi Marty

Seasons greetings to you.

I will run a tape measure over the original diff tonite and let you know.

The ratio is 3.23 which is lots better than the original 4.11. Wheel size does not matter...the wheel bolt stud patern as I understand it was the same on Ford/Mopar so you can bolt on whatever you like.....I've got the 16 inch wheels which is probably why I can cruise at 60mph.

Will be in touch tomorrow (back at work today and tomorrow then on leave til the 7th)

Hi Marty

OK, the diff I pulled from the '38 was 61 inch wide (measured to the face that the wheels bolts up to). The Falcon diff was about another 1/2 inch wider again, but sits well within the guard. If going down this track you would also need to have a custom driveshaft made, which I did and that alone made the car sooooo much smoother to drive. The great thing about the Falcon (72-74) diff and driveshaft change is that you can re-install original in an afternoon, as the only additional mod is the moving of the spring perches on the Falcon diff.

If you have a narrower track, then you may have to go looking toward Ford Courier/Transit van.
