Fireball Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 Or... Looks like I have some welding ahead:D Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 Clever gas pedal. Helps train the driver to use the correct foot:D Quote
Fireball Posted December 17, 2007 Author Report Posted December 17, 2007 Unfortunately you cannot "Put pedal to the metal", instead you are able to "Hammer your foot through the firewall..." Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 Hmmm....looks like cut & paste time, er-- cut & weld. Quote
Guest rockabillybassman Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 Mmmm.... nice patina..... Quote
55 Fargo Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 Yup the usual for a lot of these cars, get the tin, migwelder, grinder and go at her, it's not that bad of a job to do. Always looks worse than it is, once everything is welded in, seamseal, prime paint and or undercoat, done.....Fred Quote
Fireball Posted December 18, 2007 Author Report Posted December 18, 2007 Thanks Rockwood, I'm not worried a bit, it's not that bad like Rockwood says. And the best part is that I get "free" wood for my fireplace in Christmas time, just chop it out from my car. Now how convenient is that:p Quote
bigred48 Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 boy does that ever look familiar. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 (edited) Like said above most all these cars have damage here..my floor section here was toast and so was the insert...repairing this in sections makes maintaining the shape and contour easier for the home fabricator. The top of the insert is specially modified for an upgrade... Edited May 20, 2017 by Plymouthy Adams Quote
Fireball Posted January 8, 2008 Author Report Posted January 8, 2008 Am I a builder or what, the more I spend time in garage, the worse it gets:D <p> Quote
Fireball Posted January 13, 2008 Author Report Posted January 13, 2008 Some visible progress this weekend, new rockers in place and drivers side is ready for flooring The red stuff is Rost-Stop by Wurth, it's amazing paint btw. Next layer will be 2k epoxy and then some rustpreventive elastic protection on top of everything. Quote
Lou Earle Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Yup the usual for a lot of these cars, get the tin, migwelder, grinder and go at her, it's not that bad of a job to do. Well maybe a bit more Lou Quote

Fireball Posted January 20, 2008 Author Report Posted January 20, 2008 Made new floor panels, and tack welded most of the drivers side in place today. I'm keeping the foremost section removable, it'll be a huge benefit later if tranny needs work Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 Are you using a MIG welder? I'm also curious to know how you will treat the underside of the seams. I just finished my floors and I wound up going underneath the car to weld some of the seams again from the underside because they looked too rough and porous and I thought they'd hold water. I used a fiberglass seam sealer on the seams underneath but I wanted to keep the amount of that stuff to a minimum. Didn't want to depend too much on the fiberglass sealer though it is reported to be good stuff. The words "Bondo bucket" kept ringing in my ears. Quote
Fireball Posted January 20, 2008 Author Report Posted January 20, 2008 Yes I'm using MIG. Although I'm not that good welder as you see... I hear the same horrible bondo echoing. I most likely will put stuff underneath in following order. Rust killer/preventive paint first over the weld, then some professional bodyshop RTV sealer that is ment for this work, (normal black is not good since it contains vinegar of some sort and is reported to cause rusting). Thirdly an 2k epoxy from PPG that is ment for truck frames etc. On top of that a coat of elastic corrosion protection by Dinitrol http://www.dinitrol.com/index.php?id=32&no_cache=1&L=1 Did I say bulletproof Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 I'm using a two part PPG primer also. It is very good paint. I have had parts of my Plymouth covered in it for almost six years. For areas that aren't going to get finish paint, I'm using a product called Zero Rust, which is also a very good product. For information on body, paint, and rust-related things, I sometimes visit www.autobodystore.com. They have all kinds of useful information as well as some basic tutorials on MIG welding, painting, using filler, etc. Isn't it cold in Finland right now? Quote
Fireball Posted January 20, 2008 Author Report Posted January 20, 2008 Isn't it cold in Finland right now? Well it should be, but unfortunately no snow and only -3C. It really is strange January here Quote
Fireball Posted February 24, 2008 Author Report Posted February 24, 2008 Roses are red, and so is my new floor:p Trunk corner puzzlemania Getting in there All the major welding and hammering is now done. Next I need to go down under (the car), luckily the garage floor is heated. I'll finalize sealing all the seams underneath and do the rust protection. Quote
Normspeed Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 You've been busy Fireball. Nice work, she should be nice and solid when you're done. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 that is a business coupe right???..floor looks so familar...looking good..gonna be solid.. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 Nice job. Very clean work. Take a look at that first picture you posted and it's hard to believe what you've done with it. Keep up the good work. Can you post a picture of the whole car? Quote
Fireball Posted February 25, 2008 Author Report Posted February 25, 2008 Thanks for your compliments guys. You are right I've been busy, I had to build second floor to my house before I had time to go into garage at all. You see here in Finland we try to do all the modifying during winters and then drive the bat out of the cave during our short summer. So my plan is with this shortened garagetime to do the frame and floors for good, quickie preps for body and shoot some temporary flat coating for this summer. Then when the autumn comes I'll take the body to bare metal and fix whatever is needed. There seems to be quite an amount of bondo here and there, and I don't like it. Drivetrain will get it's share of TLC then as well. Sure it is an business coupe Tim. I bought it from Illinois an year ago and took it to Finland by boat. This was it old looks, will eventually get more towards my taste while I work on it. http://www.angelfire.com/mo/racevaliant/ I'm sorry my pages are only in Finnish nowadays. Quote
