55 Fargo Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 Hi all members, before I go out and try and buy a new or NOS 2 wire gas sender, would anyone happen to have an extra for sale, or possibly trade for parts you may need. As budget is a big concern in my project/life, want to try and find a good used sender first, before paying the $80.00 plus shipping and duty for a unit from Roberts........Thanx Fred Quote
Young Ed Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 I may have a used one but its as old as the one you already have and probably not likely to work. Both my car and truck have original ones and they are mediocre at best. Quote
55 Fargo Posted December 4, 2007 Author Report Posted December 4, 2007 Thanx anyway Ed, more than likely I will order a new one, just want see if a good used one is available first..............Fred Quote
Young Ed Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 Fred I think this is one area where you will be much happier with the results if you buy the new one. I totally understand working on a budget though and reusing what you can. My sender in the p15 has been taken apart soldered back together internally and had the float arm replaced with a coat hanger. The float is from the old sender that went bad in my dakota. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 Fred, I agree with Ed. I played around with my fuel gage for sometime without success, simply because I didn't want to pop for a new sender if I really didn't need one. Finally decided the only way to fix the gage was to buy the new sending unit. At least I would know that was good. Once I was able to test the gage with the new sender on the bench and both worked, I was able to track the problem to the wiring from the gage to the sender. So........since my old sender and the gage was good, I now have an extra new sender. The new sender is not for sale, I look at it as a spare, plus a tool to test mine with again, should I need to. So either way, the money you spend on a new sender won't be wasted, if you look at it like that. Quote
RobertKB Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 Can someone please tell me if the new sending unit from Roberts is a straight bolt in for the old one. I need to replace a sending unit on a '47 Chrysler ambulance I am helping to work on. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Robert Quote
bob westphal Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 Yep, It bolts right in with no mods. The float arm length is adjustable and you may need to adjust it for a better reading. Try to get it as close to the original length. Quote
