OnlyMopar
Sorry ,but have another question about bench testing the ammeter, before I put the dash/gauges back in place. Is there a straight forward way the ammeter can be tested. I have everything wired up and fully functioning, I still have all the external lighting, heater fans, interior lights connected, so I can apply a load . I don't have any of the engine bay electricals connected. So can I put the ammeter into the other circuits to check it? Thanks

Sorry, should have asked how to connect the meter itself. My wiring diagram shows connecting it to the ignition switch, light switch, voltage regulator, and the ignition coil. Can I put the meter in a circuit without the voltage regulator, ignition coil , if so how? I can load it with several electrical drains. Dan Hiebert
The ammeter mainly just checks current flow, it does not have to be hooked up to all those components to work. As you note, all you need to do to check if it is working or not is to put a load through it. Use a circuit that is working, run a jumper or two, as needed, to complete the circuit with the ammeter in it. Pay attention to which way the current is running. Thanks, I hooked it up in series with a heater fan, on the bench, and noted/recorded the needle deflection. So, my understanding of that is can do the same when I install it and the dash... Just place it between a battery feed wire,ie main light switch feed in wire and the light switch itself, right???
