Kit Posted October 17, 2024 Report Posted October 17, 2024 Hello Knowledgeable Folk Toying with changing the 218 to a 230, the 218 is "23....so my question is, will a T245 drop from an M37 drop straight in a marry up to everything? Have read that you can swap some internals to the 218 to make it a 230 but in the UK its a whole lot easier to find whole engines than parts, hence looking at Dodge Weapons Carriers.. its maybe that I have to get the parts (adding a hotter cam) to give the old girl some more pepp in her step OR try and find an overdrive which I do have a lead on one here.. Hopping up the 218 will generally deliver 230 performance, so thinking if I get the 230, rebuild it with some go-faster parts it maybe the direction to go whilst keeping fairly original..Thanks Quote

greg g Posted October 18, 2024 Report Posted October 18, 2024 (edited) Not that it's a big deal, but weren't a lot of the military speced set up for 12 or 24 volts? Swapping accessories would address concerns. Might they also be governored on the intake/carb? Physically should fit. Crank flange, flywheel, starter, clutch diameter may also require a look at compatability and or interchange issues. Edited October 18, 2024 by greg g Quote
QEC Posted October 21, 2024 Report Posted October 21, 2024 The 230 will require a 230 flywheel, do not use the 218 wheel. There is a difference of 0.185" in the offset that starters will not like. Quote
