tinlizzy Posted August 29, 2024 Report Posted August 29, 2024 What is everyone using for a heater core replacement for the 48-50 dodge pickups? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 29, 2024 Report Posted August 29, 2024 there are some very basic heater cores you can find on e-bay nice cost...these are not really exotic in design just know dimension here is the killer. So, I would like to suggest a visit to local big box store, talk to someone about looking through the basic Four Seasons book and knowing ahead of time the base dimensions of your existing, likely you can find a substitute. Order from them or now knowing the specs and application, spread your search out for the better deal. The Four Season book is a great resource. Quote
Eneto-55 Posted August 29, 2024 Report Posted August 29, 2024 (edited) I second Plymouthy's suggestion, get some measurements and pictures of where the inlet & outlet are. (I saved both out of the 93 Chrysler T&C I scrapped out (the main one, and the second one in the rear). With the measurements handy, maybe someone can identify one that would work, lout of a vehicle in the scrap yard. I only have these two, but could get measurements of those. If the location of the tubes can be re-located, then there's a lot better chance of finding something that would work for you, and I'm sure that the other PilotHouse owners will be interested in what you discover. JBNeal Posted August 29, 2024 Report Posted August 29, 2024 additional information - heater core catalog Quote
tinlizzy Posted September 12, 2024 Author Report Posted September 12, 2024 I found that a 1987 dakota heater core fit in the space of the heater I have. To make it work I cut of the tubes suppling the core to 3/4" sanded and rounded off to accept a 1/2" copper el. Will solder this on then direct the tubes to go through the existing holes of the heater and then through the firewall using 1/2" copper pipe. I think that will work but it will take some patience.
