Pep48
When I purchased our '48, there were a bunch of parts in the trunk, including a water pump which appears to be new (no box) Is there a way to test the pump if it's off the engine? Thanks!
JBNeal
About the only things that can be done with that water pump is to rotate the hub to see if the bearings rotate smoothly; the pump body can also be filled with water with the ports sealed off temporarily with duct tape or the like to check if the pump shaft seal is leaky. DeS-11
If it's the kind with the removable back, you could maybe take it off and check the impeller for damage or corrosion, as well; I think it would be pretty obvious then if it were actual NOS or not. And in addition to what JB said above, you could also make sure that the bearings don't have too much play in them. That's about all I would do. Sniper
I took apart a new pump, addressed a few minor issues. http://www.yourolddad.com/cooling-system
BobDeSoto
Does it have a grease fitting or a sealed bearing?
