Well crud.  Been long enough since I posted I had to redo my password as I couldn’t log in.  Any way I have been whittling  on my ‘36 truck.  Whilst cleaning this thing I was cleaning the mirror and it kinda went south. The mirror backing is fogged and the mirror itself is loose on the bracket. I really hate the thought of removing it from the door as it is “on there” good. I just don’t want to open another can of worms.  So two questions.  What could I push into around the ball end that the oval mirror rotates on to firm that up.  And how would I pry the glass off to re-silver the back.  Pry carefully?  Shove chewing gum in and around the swivel back part of the mirror.  Just joking but half serious.

Thanks for the reply. A friend told me Hobby Lobby has a mirror restoration kit.  So now I just need to put the thinking cap on to figure out the gentle prying secret of that glass from the frame.

Most mirrors have a roll formed edge to hold the glass...VERY tricky to try and pry away and then even trickier to put back w/o the right tooling.  Best of luck!

This is a job for a glass shop. Bite the bullet and remove the mirror. I’ve had several mirrors where a glass shop cut a new mirror and installed. Easier to fix the looseness issue too with the mirror off.

Sigh...you are probably correct sir... I will call some glass shops on Tuesday and see what they have to say.  Then I will do the inside review mirror as well. It’s spotty also.
