BobT-47P15 Posted November 26, 2007 Report Posted November 26, 2007 A young man in L.A. bought the truck a few years ago. It was a customized 1947 Chevy pickup. With the assistance of a friend, he finally ran some messages on the HAMB with photos.....and the end result was he located the original builder, who had not seen it for 40 years. Now the builder is going to assist with resurrecting the truck. Link to the story....7 pages worth, but a nice old car tale. (Whether you like the looks of the truck or not...the story is good.) http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=175650 Quote
PatS.... Posted November 26, 2007 Report Posted November 26, 2007 That was a GREAT story!!!! Thanks Bob!!! Quote
woodscavenger Posted November 26, 2007 Report Posted November 26, 2007 I can see coolness in the front but I get lost in the rear. That must have a lot of work into it. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 26, 2007 Author Report Posted November 26, 2007 If you read the entire story about the truck, it said there was a lucite or plastic panel over that entire rear area, not those little lites which are there now. That panel lighted up all the way across. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 26, 2007 Report Posted November 26, 2007 funny but that rear panel and lights make me think corvair... have since looked at the article on the HAMB...I see the headlights were changed..maybe the local law had something to do with that part..but the butcher to the dash from original...hard to imagine the why and wherefore of someone doing that...guess it is unique in the fact that it is still out and about after all these years. Dennis Hemingway Posted November 26, 2007 Report Posted November 26, 2007 I wish I would have had this information last week, I would of stopped by the shop in Vegas to see the truck. Dennis:mad: Quote
62rebelP23 Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 somebody over the years recut the hood and molded the front to the apron. i read Delaney's response and was somewhat discouraged to learn they plan to do major update including the dreaded 350/350 combo. ah well, it's his truck to work on. just me: i'd put it back to magazine article spec. anybody got an old chebbie pickup lying around? BobT-47P15 Posted November 27, 2007 Author Report Posted November 27, 2007 I think Delaney even said he would install a new frame along with engine, trans, etc. That's more than a resto job.....that would make another, new, truck out of it. Guess it all depends upon what the owner wants. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 I believe if I was going to that extreme I would start with better uncut, unmodified no bondo applied panels. And I really don't think he could screw the dash worse than it is now anyway...looks like the cockpit of a soap box derby car... Quote
Young Ed Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 I bet at one point that dash was covered in upholstery to match the rest. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 yeah..did not think of that...but looking at the the first rendition and comparing that dash to the latest one..something went terribily wrong... Quote
