1952 Cranbrook Door Handle Spring question

Recommended Posts

Posted

Please see attached. My RF door handle works, but doesn't return and just lays down like seen in the photo. I have removed the seats and am going to remove the door panels soon to reupholster. Before I go into it, I like to maybe be ahead of the game a little.  It sure seems like a return spring broken, but thats just a guess. Anyone have experience with this issue? Is there a spring that Mopar Pro or someone sells? Any tips or tricks are appreciated.

These mechanisms are complex assembly of spring levers and rotors...these combined with wear, dirt and dried lubrication prevent the proper operation.  While there may be ultimately some sag after years of wear, a proper cleaning and lubrication usually will return the handle to use and successful latching unlatching.  The finger springs are the secret to the long life given the eventual wear of the inner rotor.    Suggest a very involved cleaning and lubrication of your mechanism.

I have the same problem on my 51 and it is most definitely a broken spring. I ended up having to buy a couple of mechanisms off of eBay to get those Springs
