HCD Posted November 11, 2023 Report Posted November 11, 2023 I have a 1948 Chrysler New Yorker with fluid drive and trying to run a wire from relay to carb kickdown terminal. Ive got service manual and diagrams does anyone have a similar chrysler with wire connected and have pics of what it looks like? The wiring diagram shows wire running from TH terminal to carb kickdown Quote
Sniper Posted November 11, 2023 Report Posted November 11, 2023 A relevant title to your posts would help people notice what you are asking for. 1 Quote
DonaldSmith Posted November 11, 2023 Report Posted November 11, 2023 How about "Kickdown Circuit for M5? The kickdown circuit goes from the kickdown switch at the carb (yellow wire) to the TH post on the transmission relay and to the governor at the transmission. The kickdown swiurch is at the back of the carburetor and is acturated by the throttle linkage and grounds the circuit. Normally, the transmission downshifts when the governor senses that the speed has dropped below a certain point. The kickdown circuit overrides this, to shift at a higher speed. I forget what the circuit does within the transmission relay. The shop manual shows the circuits and the functions. In the meantime you can connect the wires and get the transmisison to downshift when you floor it. Quote
HCD Posted November 12, 2023 Author Report Posted November 12, 2023 thanks Donald, yes the relay blade should be listed as TH and I know which terminal on carb it connects to, but my relay isnt marked as TH and I need some pics of someone who has it connected in their Chrysler for reference Quote
DonaldSmith Posted November 12, 2023 Report Posted November 12, 2023 Here's a photo of the transmission relay: TH (Yellow to carb) BAT PRI SOL INT 1 Quote
HCD Posted November 13, 2023 Author Report Posted November 13, 2023 Thanks, is the wire on the right in pic just above the fuse the yellow wire going to carb? or the one on the left? owner before me added a newer aftermarket relay that is to the left of this pic of relay and it only has H, not TH. all my other wires are connected to trans components its just one to carb giving me a problem. thanks for photo Quote
DonaldSmith Posted November 13, 2023 Report Posted November 13, 2023 My photo is looking across the engine at the transmission relay. (The Voltage regulator was to the right of, or in front of, the transmission relay.) Upper left is TH. Looking doen on the relay, top left would be BAT with the fuse, top right would be TH. Afrermarket relay? Huh? Quote
Hickory Posted November 17, 2023 Report Posted November 17, 2023 I agree with sniper on the title, just a thought but i think this is been several post named HDC and if anyone is trying the search function using title as a parameter then none of you post would show up. Just a thought. Quote
