Eneto-55 Posted January 14, 2023 Report Posted January 14, 2023 (edited) A search locates several comments about child safety seats, for example AndyDodge, 1940 Dodge but thought I'd start a discussion for those who have made provisions for this, to show how they set it up. This just occurred to me today, because our 18 month old grandson is with is for a few days, and I discovered that our (un-mentionable off-topic 2019 Honda CR-V) that we purchased several months back apparently doesn't have the latch points that I thought were standard on all modern cars. So now I'm thinking that I will see if I can install something like that in my 4-door P15. Edited January 14, 2023 by Eneto-55 Quote

In the video he numbered as "3. Connection Points - Where the connection points are located", it seemed that the plastic 'buttons" in the seat back were there to indicate the position of the latch points. I checked between the seat back & bottom again, but there is nothing there. (I released the seat back as well, to get space between the two seat sections, so I could easily feel all around in there. Nothing.) But then I felt around the button in the seat back, and the latches are there INSIDE the seat back, not between the back and lower seat cushion, as I've seen on other vehicles. The Honda Owner's Manual is just not clear - the photo is too small to tell that they are showing a location in the seat back, and not between. Quote
andyd Posted January 15, 2023 Report Posted January 15, 2023 I know when our kids arrived I installed what were the correct for the time(early 1980's) child seat anchorage bolts however a few years ago when I went to check on the current Oz regulations as our grandkids were coming & may have been taken on a drive or two I found that the anchorage bolts had been changed and I had to install the newer type of bolt/bracketry.........might be worth checking your local regs or what the child seats actually need.........andyd Quote

By the way, looked at the owner's manual again, and it literally says "1. Locate the lower anchors under the marks." So I looked below the marks, but in the crevice between the upper and lower seat cushions, where I'd always seen these latch points. Anyway, I would assume that these latch points would need to be as securely fastened to the floor of the vehicle as are the seat belt anchor points. But to your point, wouldn't a person need to look at the regulations for auto manufacturers? (On the other hand, my main concern is for the safety of the child, not so much how the Law would look at me. However, even though older vehicles are probably excused from these regulations (because these features are not original, nor were they required in that era), does the act of installing these features make one liable for meeting current regulations? andyd Posted January 15, 2023 Report Posted January 15, 2023 Your point regarding liability is a fair point but for my car since it has been a "hotrod" since 1973 and was modified by me prior to the Oz regulations that required it to be checked by a mechanical engineer and therefore technically didn't come under these regs I didn't worry about them..........lol........I obtained the correct bracketry, bolts and fittings and installed them to the best of my ability and am sufficently confident that they are strong enough withstand what they are designed to withstand...........and now both grandkids are old enough to use adult seat belts anyway............so its a moot point............lol...........andyd Quote
