Tony_Urwin Posted November 8, 2007 Report Posted November 8, 2007 Has anyone swapped the pinion flanges from a car and a truck? I obtained a 3.73 pumpkin with the correct axle spline count, but the pinion flanges are different. Will they swap? Quote
Young Ed Posted November 8, 2007 Report Posted November 8, 2007 Yes I have done that. I put a car 3.9 in my 46 and switched it to a truck flange. The diff end of the flange was the same. Quote
Tony_Urwin Posted November 8, 2007 Author Report Posted November 8, 2007 Thanks, Ed. What's the best way to break that nut loose? An impact wrench? Quote
Young Ed Posted November 8, 2007 Report Posted November 8, 2007 That's now we did it. Proper size socket and the 1/2in impact. Might be a cotter pin to remove too. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 I agree with Ed that it's possible. I too have done it. A good inpact gun will be the easiest to get the nut off, but I've also had luck by clamping the flange in a sturdy vice and using a breaker bar with an extension pipe. You may also need a puller to pull the flange off of the pinion. They tend to stick themselves on fairly tight. Quote
