1948 Desoto Rear Engine Mount replacement

I am trying to replace the rear engine mounts that connect to the bell housing and I need more clearance to remove the upper support. 
Am I doing something wrong? I need raise it another 1/2".

The floor pan unbolts above the trans. It's basically the whole front foot well that unbolts. From the inside behind the carpet.

Been there, done that.  I removed the floor pan, of course.   On my 47 DeSoto, I had to remove the transmission and drop the rear of the bell housing, to get enough height to tip in the motor mounts.  (Maybe the 63s are different.)

The original poster only has a 1963 Imperial listed and I thought that this car would have had the single rear gearbox mount on the tailpiece of the trans...........maybe the post refers to an earlier mopar which used the bellhousing mounts and as mentioned the front floor removal helps with the clearance issue........can the OP be more specific re what car he is working on?............It would also help if I had reread the title of the post.......oops.......yep, will need to remove the front floor to gain extra clearance on the 1948 DeSoto.........apologies for my mistake................andyd

I could not remove the floor pan as someone riveted a new one over the old one.

I removed the transmission and with a little ingenuity, I was able to replace the mounts. It's done!

I remember replacing the rear mounts on my 52 Plymouth without removing anything but the mounts themselves. It was a battle. My neighbor helped me and it took several hours.

I did it on a 52 Dodge in minutes about a month ago, but not on this one.
At least it is done.
