grey beard Posted December 7, 2007 Report Posted December 7, 2007 NAPA part number 660-1141 is a black plastic, cable operated valve that worked nicely for me. Nicest part is that you can find it at 6000 locations nationally - and I'm REALLY not a NAPA salesman. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 7, 2007 Report Posted December 7, 2007 I did locate a fellow out my way that rebuilds vintage heater controls to new condition. He was mentioned on the Imperial forum. From what I gather, his probably run near $100 and are worth it if you want quality original stuff. I feel lucky getting off for only $20. I believe the unit for my car is 125.00 less shipping and handling..Ranco was the builder of some of these odd style and shape control valves..I find it hard to believe that my 51 unit was thermostatic bulb controlled.. Normspeed Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 Both mine were that brand, with the thermostatic bulb. The part that goes bad is the little rubber seal at the shaft. Yesterday I installed the aftermarket valve, and with a little massaging, it fit so close to the original location that I was able to hook up the stock control cable. It works great, although I wish I'd had it ready to install while the blower motor, housing and duct were still out. Added a few new bruises to my forearms. It's rough gettin' old. Quote

Norm, now that you have the original one out of the car, maybe you can fix it if all it needs is the rubber seal. If that guy can fix them, you should be able to. After all you have nothing to lose. It's already broken, who cares if it breaks a little more. Quote
Normspeed Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 This one fits so well, I think I'll keep it, and in another coupla years, make my fortune on ebay selling the original one. Thanks for the part number. Quote
billwillard Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 Take it to NAPA and match it up with a new one. NAPA has a lot of parts for old stuff. Quote
James_Douglas Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 If you are willing to mount a plate on, then this simple, cheep, and long lasting stainless valve works just fine... http://www.dacoglu.com/cooling.htm James Quote
Alexander Posted December 20, 2007 Author Report Posted December 20, 2007 Thanks James, Perhaps this might be a good short term soloution, untill I find somthing that looks more orginal. Alex Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 This is the set up I have. The valve is something that I found on ebay. It is basically an inline valve and I ran a generic cable to inside the car so I can turn the heat on or off while driving. Quote
