I’m following the FSM directions on removing the flathead out of my 40 1/2 ton.

In some cases the manual is vague, and it says to remove the clutch and brake pedals off of the clutch shaft as part of the engine removal preparation.

Everything on my truck, as expected has been fighting me and I’ve loosened the outer adjustment collar on the end of the shaft. Should that collar slide off the end of the shaft, followed by the clutch pedal and then the brake pedal?

The clutch pedal is obviously keyed to the shaft somehow, and I don’t want to do any damage trying to get the pedals off by doing something I shouldn’t.

I’ve been soaking the pedals where they meet the shaft, and the outer adjustment collar with PB blaster, and I’m guessing I’ll need to apply some heat as well.

If anyone can tell me the best way to remove the pedals I would appreciate it ?

I am not sure yours is like my flathead 218 out of a ‘48 Pilothouse, but just in case I attached a picture. In my case the clutch is not keyed to the shaft but rather is secured to the shaft by the end piece that slips on. There are two bolts on the end piece that pinch a tab on the clutch pedal. The end piece is the one that is keyed. Once you get the end piece off, the pedals slide of pretty easily. I had to really work at getting the end piece off. I think I tried prying from behind and just slowly worked it off.
