streetdemon Posted October 19, 2021 Report Posted October 19, 2021 (edited) I am new to the group and wanted to say hello and that I have question. I just purchased a 1950 Plymouth Business Coupe about a month ago and I am just starting to go through it fixing things that were just kind of rigged up by the previous owner/owners to get it running. My question is about the column shift pattern, I think someone hooked the shift linkage up backwards and the service manual I purchased really isn’t any help. It doesn’t have any information about the 3-speed manual trans. Do any of you have photos of how the shift linkage is supposed to be to fix the problem? Or is this how the pattern is supposed to be from the factory? Edited October 19, 2021 by streetdemon Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 19, 2021 Report Posted October 19, 2021 reverse the left top and bottom and right top and bottom and you should have your pattern....for 1 &R you need to pull in torward you as you go up or down Quote
Bryan G Posted October 20, 2021 Report Posted October 20, 2021 Well, I learned something! I had no idea the pattern could be reversed like that. Totally inverted. Quote
MarcDeSoto Posted October 20, 2021 Report Posted October 20, 2021 The shop manual actually has a lot on the three speed manual transmission, but it mainly focuses on how to rebuild one. The owner's manual show you the shift pattern. If someone messed up the shift linkage, good luck. There little information on that subject. Just check my posts on the linkage for my 48 DeSoto. You might get some info on your car by looking at the MoPar filmstrips that they showed to the dealer mechanics. https://mymopar.com/mtsc-1949-volume-2-6-transmission-fundamentals/ Quote
