Use this new type setup.

Or have your motor rebuilt by local? rebuilder of motor to change windings for 12Buy

Or a purchase a 12v. to 6 v. heavy duty voltage reducer. Use search forum to research this this and has been written about many times? Never used this myself, but sounds OK.

Up to you to check these options out as some possibles?

When I converted my 51 to 12V I ended up building a current limiter to slow the original 6v wiper motor down.

It works, but I think a PWM controller would be a better choice as it would have infinitely variable speeds.  Rather than the one speed I have, that speed being fine for a low speed setting, but it could really use a high speed setting too.

I wasn't able to find anyone that made a bolt in kit for my 51.

A video showing my wipers in action after the conversion and current limiter.

I found a plan for a voltage reducer on a vw web page which we built that seems to work. A few discreet electrical devices and a heat sink.
