Bob Riding Posted May 26, 2021 Report Posted May 26, 2021 I pulled the third member from my '52 Suburban -it's getting replaced by a Ranger third member so I can get a higher gearing and e-brake. One of our Forum members is interested in it if it substantially higher than his stock '49 woodie. I found this stamped underneath next to the drain plug. It says 4 29. The closest stated ratio list in the manual is 4:3 for overdrive models, which this wagon doesn't have. Would Chrysler have "rounded up"? Thoughts? Quote
keithb7 Posted May 26, 2021 Report Posted May 26, 2021 (edited) Usually marks are found on the crown gear outer edge. Try turning it until you see the ratio stamped. Or just count the teeth on both. Unless of course it's still installed. Then nevermind. Edited May 26, 2021 by keithb7 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 26, 2021 Report Posted May 26, 2021 look at the very top of the cast of the carrier where she bolts onto the banjo....usually the gears are stamped here by tooth count...... Quote
keithb7 Posted May 27, 2021 Report Posted May 27, 2021 I had a look at my spare carrier to learn and follow your tip @Plymouthy Adams on the top housing I only found the letter “E”. Looked all over. I see a casting part number. Only sign of ratio is on my crown gear. My assembly was built in Canada. Who knows? Could be different. We sometimes like to do things a little differently up here. Quote
