Chachos 49 Posted April 29, 2021 Report Posted April 29, 2021 I have a 1950 Plymouth it has a 218 that needs replacing. I’m buying another 1950 that has a P26 stamp on the engine which tells me it’s a 1954 230 engine correct? Will I be able to swap it with no problems? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 29, 2021 Report Posted April 29, 2021 close, right cubes 230, but the P26 is 1955.....swap should be about one for one Quote
greg g Posted April 29, 2021 Report Posted April 29, 2021 (edited) The crankshaft flange flywheel might have 6 bolts. My 56 did. I used the later fly wheel with the 46 trans. Use the one that's in best condition. But first count the teeth on the ring gears.some where in the 50s they changed. Make sure the starter and flywheel match. The flywheels will swap but the bolt holes are asymmetrical. It must be positioned correctly for the holes to match. Edited April 29, 2021 by greg g Quote
Chachos 49 Posted April 29, 2021 Author Report Posted April 29, 2021 I have the transmission and everything from the 230. I can just swap it all out with all of the 218 stuff and it will bolt just fine? Quote
greg g Posted April 29, 2021 Report Posted April 29, 2021 You may need to swap some items like the oil pan and oil pickup, the exhaust Manifold as there are a couple different exit locations to mate up with the current ex haust pipe, the throttle linkage, if it's a truck the rear engine mounts and bellowing are different. But it's all hand tool stuff. When I went from p15 to p28 one was front sump oil pan the other was rear. It was just a matter of swapping the bits. Things will be pretty obvious when you get to it. It's a worth while swap, the extra horses are noticable. Quote
