Fuel pump

Recommended Posts

Should the fuel pump be full.. I'm not getting fuel to the carb. I removed the steel line into the carb turned it over.. dry.. I then went down to the far end hose on the pump dry... I blew are down it and can manage to hear air blow.. loud air compressor.. so if I have a bad pump,  is there a kit? I really don't want to do electric as I don't know if I have to remove the bulb style and flaring lines I'm terrible at..

I snagged a rebuild kit from Terrill Machine cuz they're just over the hill, but ya might have another local source available to ya (have your pump model ready for ordering)...once rebuilt, I could fill the glass bowl with gasoline then actuate the lever manually and gasoline would shoot a good 10 feet...all it takes is a small tear in the diaphragm and PFFFFT no more pump pressure

What is the condition of your fuel tank ? New ? Original ? If original I'd suspect a clogged - in tank filter. Supposedly the original tanks have some sort of porous filter element inside the bottom of the tank. If I recall correctly - maybe sintered metal type. If you have rust or other crap in the gas tank - that filter is probably plugged and won't allow fuel to flow.

Try the following before assuming the pump is bad. Remove the rubber line to the supply side of the pump. Rig up a rubber hose long enough to dip into a small gas can - such as that used for lawn mowers. Connect the rubber hose to the inlet side of the pump. Drop the open end of the hose into the gas can and crank the motor over and see if the pump draws fuel and pumps into the carb. If it does, then your tank is bad, and needs to be cleaned or replaced. Fuel tanks are available for 51's. I put one in my 52...

Dartgame, I followed the steps yoy gave. It cranked stayed on for 4 seconds and dies. Removed the hose from the inlet and it was wet with gas. So it's sucking up fuel but I pushing it out.. or alternatively it's not getting sucked up from the carb.. I checked the steel line into the carb and it was bone dry
