Wayfarer311 Posted November 1, 2020 Report Posted November 1, 2020 Hi, I have a 1949 dodge wayfarer with a flathead 6. The car does not have the wire that goes to the automatic choke, it's gone. Does anyone know where that wire ends up? Going from auto choke to ? Quote
plymouthcranbrook Posted November 1, 2020 Report Posted November 1, 2020 If like my Sission choke that was on my 52 Plymouth it attaches to the starter terminal on the starter and applies power when the starter is energized. The other end fastens to the terminal on the choke. Be sure the screw is just long enough to connect as too long will short out on the Manifold. A search should give you pictures. Quote
Wayfarer311 Posted November 2, 2020 Author Report Posted November 2, 2020 So it doesn't get continuous power? This is my choke, it goes on the exhaust manifold next to carb. Quote
Wayfarer311 Posted November 2, 2020 Author Report Posted November 2, 2020 Also thank you for the help. Quote
Wayfarer311 Posted November 2, 2020 Author Report Posted November 2, 2020 You were right, thank you. Found an article on it online. 1 Quote
Frank Gooz Posted November 5, 2020 Report Posted November 5, 2020 Wayfarer311 On my 1950 Coronet the wire goes straight to the starter . Please confirm this. the wire is in the small harness with the carb, resistor, circuit breaker, choke, and the tranny. Quote
plymouthcranbrook Posted November 6, 2020 Report Posted November 6, 2020 Yes wayfarer. That is correct as you found out. Sorry I did not get back to you sooner. Life...be aware it will short out if not insulated and cause a good puff of smoke. How I know this is a government secret. Frank I assume you have a fluid drive set up? I am not familiar with that but other here are. Might be information in the Tech section as well. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted November 6, 2020 Report Posted November 6, 2020 Don't forget the thick .125" asbestos gasket that goes under the Sisson choke to prevent it from opening the choke too quickly. Quote
Wayfarer311 Posted November 6, 2020 Author Report Posted November 6, 2020 Thank you all for your help. And thank you Dodge for the gasket info, found one on ebay. 1 Quote
