The Oil Soup Posted July 19, 2020 Report Posted July 19, 2020 Does anyone have a part number for the expansion plug on the back of a 218/230 block at the camshaft? The hole is about 1.384". Quote
TodFitch Posted July 19, 2020 Report Posted July 19, 2020 The index/illustration at the front of the engine section of my '36-'48 parts book says that part should be in group 9-16-6 but I don't see a listing for it there. In the meantime, the plugs I see in group 200 of the standard parts book come in 16ths of an inch sized and your measurement does not seem to match up with any of them. The closest I see would be 1 7/16 (1.4375) inches. For that, the original Chrysler number is 105603 and it is listed as being made of steel (no brass listed in that size). I am having a difficult time with the Dorman site looking for their number for that part but it is likely they carry it. Quote
9 foot box Posted July 19, 2020 Report Posted July 19, 2020 Maybe these numbers will work. Dorman 560-019 brass 1 3/8”, 550-019 steel 1 3/8”. My block has Melling plugs, P12B brass for the cam and P14B for the 1 5/8” plugs. The rear plug is a P14 steel plug. I don’t know if Melling makes plugs any more, but they have oil pump kits and cylinder liners. The shop that did my engine might have used up their inventory. Quote
The Oil Soup Posted July 19, 2020 Author Report Posted July 19, 2020 The plug I pulled from a '51 218 was original and was steel so perhaps being in contact with motor oil rather than coolant is the reason for the steel. Maybe the Dorman 550-019 1.375" would expand enough? I'll give it a try. Quote
