Emmy41 Posted July 17, 2020 Report Posted July 17, 2020 (edited) Howdy gents! I've been on here for a few years now but not very active since I have been working on my 1958 W100 for the past couple years. I am now starting in on my 1950 B3C 3/4t pilothouse. It was one of those deals so common to us old car guys, someone pulled the head and oil pan eons ago, and judging by the new Pistons and bearings on the seat, had intentions of doing an in-frame rebuild. But that never happened for whatever reason. My question is this; My truck has a 4 speed top loader, and an engine removed from a running - driving 51' truck that has since been turned into frankentruck, I bought as a transplant. Both motors are 218's, and according to the block #'s are 8 months apart in age. The donor motor has a three on the tree trans. I want to keep the original 4 speed with the donor engine. Are the bellhousings the same with just different gearbox's and linkages? Is it a direct fit for me to swap? I have been surfing for a similar thread on here but if I get to specific with my search I get "no results" . Would love it if one of you fellers could save a guy some time and frustration, I know it might seem like a dumb question to some but I'm still the point of making an informed decision without a lick of information.....? Thanks in advance! Robert Oh, here's a pic of the W100 that's kept me away.....maybe....lol Edited July 17, 2020 by Emmy41 Didn't load first attempt Quote
Emmy41 Posted July 17, 2020 Author Report Posted July 17, 2020 Here's a couple more pics since I know you guys dig em' . Some of my first back from the dead projects (67' D100). Also, my current and largest leap into insanity, the 1950 B3C ......maybe Quote
dcotant Posted July 17, 2020 Report Posted July 17, 2020 Bell housings are different for 3 on tree than 4 speed on floor, the threaded transmission mounting holes are spaced differently, the engine side is the same. Quote
Emmy41 Posted July 17, 2020 Author Report Posted July 17, 2020 That's good info! Now I know not to bother detailing the trans and bellhousings on the donor. Appreciate the response sir. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted July 17, 2020 Report Posted July 17, 2020 Like was said, use your bell housing for the 4 speed and attach to the donor engine. Also, a B3C would be a ‘51 or ‘52 model, so your ‘51 donor engine should be a perfect swap. They likely have the same engine code stamped in the S/N pad. I believe it should be T308. Lovin’ the ‘58 W100. Is that a Fire Department logo on the door? Quote
Emmy41 Posted July 17, 2020 Author Report Posted July 17, 2020 (edited) Yes sir, it's Mountainaire fire Dept. From Arizona, same place my pilothouse came from. Bought at the same auction. I believe I have a pic of it sent to me from the current chief from back in the day when it was in service..... Yes that's a 500 gallon tank with all the other gear on the back......on a 1/2 ton chassis. Edited July 17, 2020 by Emmy41 Didn't load first attempt 2 Quote
Emmy41 Posted July 21, 2020 Author Report Posted July 21, 2020 Hey Merle, I just checked my door tag, my truck is a B2C......it's been sitting in driveway for 3 years waiting for it's turn. I have done a few things like recovering the seat, and pulling the guages and making them look new again. Also sourced some parts that were missing in the engine compt. From the partial teardown that probably happened 40 years ago. Still looking for some of the floor pieces and a battery cover. Quote
48Dodger Posted July 21, 2020 Report Posted July 21, 2020 You called it a 1950, which is a B2 .......so it makes sense you might find B2 on your truck. Sometimes the dealer would sell a 1950 model in 1951 and the registration would show 1951. So sometimes guys go years thinking its a 51 and don't find out til later its actually a 1950. 48D Quote
Emmy41 Posted July 21, 2020 Author Report Posted July 21, 2020 Yep, like I said, it had been sitting in the driveway for 3 years waiting it's turn. I had read the tag before, but I'm getting a little long in the tooth, soooooooo......? Quote
