desoto1939 Posted July 14, 2020 Report Posted July 14, 2020 I have a 39 Desoto and some members have asked what paper or modern filter to use to replace the old oil bath filter element. When looking to do this approx 10 years ago I went onto the NAPA online system and started to look at their NAPA Gold Series airfilter and the different sizes available. I found that the NAPA Gold 2296 and also the Wix 42296, both the same paper element is a perfect fit for my 39 Desoto airfilter assembly. It just was a dropin to the bottom portion and then put the lid back on to the top and i just added an extra washer to make sure the lid was on tight. I was able to get another air filter element the other day on Ebay for $13 delivered to my home instead of the NAPA cost of around $23. I will post pictures of the paper element and of my metal airfilter assembly. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. The metal airfilter is the original for my 39 Desoto so not sure if anyone elses is the same but this might help someone with the change to a modern air filter element. rallyace Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 Fram CA6605 is the equivalent to the NAPA 2296 and about half the price. Quote
Sniper Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 WIX 42296 is even less expensive than the Fram, at Rockauto anyway. Or you could go crazy and buy a K&N E-4655 Quote
