I am fine tuning my fluid drive car and idle is set at 400. My meter is set to dwell and it is the bottom degrees numbers looks to be around the 38-39 range. I am getting a slight ticking like a sewing machine at any rpm.  is this normal operation?

thank you

Looks to me that you are about dead on with the dwell setting for a 6 cylinder car or truck. I read the sacle as being around 37 but that is so close to 38 it is almost perfect setting. This is just my opinion.

Thanks, is ticking a normal operation, it runs like a clock and sounds like a sewing machine. Just a slight tick. The tick is present coming off from high speed as well, but am impressed with how it starts and runs.

not sure where you are hearing the ticking sound coming from can you provide more input as to where it is coming from?

It is faint but sounds like it’s coming from the distributer/upper part of engine. It’s is a rebuilt motor. I just want to make sure that this will not hurt my engine over time.

The ticking is likely the mechanical lifters.  Totally normal.  Sometimes mine clack rather loudly....just keep on rollin'!

IMO your idle should be at 650-700 with a reduction to 450 if you have/utilize fluid drive at a stop light
