1964. 251 flathead temp sensor

Hello guys,

 

 

I just acquired a 1964 WM 300 Power wagon with a 251 flathead in it and i am not able to locate the location of the coolant temp sensor.

 

I also want to know the location on the carburator where I can connect the vacuum line to change ignition timing or can I just fit it on the intake manual, there are two connection possibilities on the inlet manifold.

My engine is fitted with a Zenith Stromberg single barrel carb.

The coolant temp port is in cylinder head, driver side by cyl 5 i think. 
that engine most likely didnt come with  vacuum advance from factory. It wont run much different compared to one with vac advance. 
my 218 vac pot went bad, runs fine without it.

I found a rebuilt 241 from a 1941 Chrysler to put into my 1966 WM300.   It does not have the block bored for the temp sensor. where the 251 has it.  Can I put the sensor into the heater line? Also, Seems the best hoist points are the cylinder head bolts.  Can I undo just the corners and then re-torque them, or should I ease them all, and then retorque, or will I need a whole new gasket?  Thanks

If you can weld a fitting into a tube with bubble flared or bead rolled ends (or buy one) you can definitely put the sensor in the radiator hose but it won’t tell you much until the thermostat opens. It would be good insurance against overheating but I will say I never overheated my 230 with stock rad and no shroud

Oh I guess the heater send line would be even better

The temp sender port should be in the head, not the block. And I’ve never heard of a head without a temp sender port. Is it an aftermarket head?

Thanks, it does have a port in the head. The cracked 251 that came with my wm300 had it in the side of the block, driver's side near the back.
