Francois Pelletier Posted April 6, 2019 Report Posted April 6, 2019 Hi guys, I just bought my first vintage Dodge and evertthing I googled brought me here so I am now a member What I found is a 1940 D16 The data plate read as such: Model D16SPEC4DSED Body No 719 Paint Code !559 Trim Code A MO It is in relatively good shape and seems mostly original excep for the color wich is now dark red. But it has not been run in 4-5 years so it will need some fixing before driving. I have read here that the canadian dodge is different in many ways to the US one, how do I find parts ? Is there some sort of interchange list between Canadian and US cars parts ? The plan is not to do a rivet counters restoration but to drive the thing as much as possible ! Francois 1 Quote
Andydodge Posted April 6, 2019 Report Posted April 6, 2019 Nice car but I maybe a little biased........lol............seems your steering wheel is on the wrong side.........lol............seriously tho the fenders, hood headlight surrounds are 1940 Plymouth, also probably the taillights as well.......badges, grille and dash are 1940 Dodge, mechanicals as far as I know are the same between both brands........however being a Canadian built car it SHOULD have the 25" DeSoto/Chrysler based engine NOT the USA Dodge/Plymouth 23" long engine..........you should physically check which..............I have an Oz built 1940 D15 which is the Oz version of what you have, tho' the body shell is an Oz interpretation used from 1939 to 1948 (note my cars external door hinges & two piece rear window).........I noticed that your car is missing the crank hole cover, so was mine till 2 months ago when I bought one from US ebay which fitted perfectly..............and I just noticed the folding front bumper overider.........WOW...........have never seen that feature..........I've had my car since 1971 and have looked at many pics of north American 1940 Dodges in the past 48 years BUT this is the 1st time I've seen the folding overider................many thanks for the pic.....its good to learn something new every day........anyway heres some pics of my 1940 D15 Dodge............regards from Australia and Welcome Aboard..........Andy Douglas Quote

Welcome to the forum, Francois . Lots of good info available here. Quote
1949 Wraith Posted April 7, 2019 Report Posted April 7, 2019 Francois, Very nice looking sedan. If your car is the Canadian model the Dodges here used Plymouth engines. 1940 probably the 218 if your car has the the original engine the serial number will start with D16... it is stamped on the block top left beside the oil filler. Ignition parts can be brought in by Carquest and Napa take the model and make of your distributor(maybe an Autolight made in Sarnia) Find the model tagged on you carb if you need rebuilt parts. Quote
Cannuck Posted April 8, 2019 Report Posted April 8, 2019 You have a very nice car. Be careful ordering parts for your car.Especially the drivetrain and brakes . I always mention that my car is Canadian made and that helps . Quote
T120 Posted April 8, 2019 Report Posted April 8, 2019 Having the proper Canadian part numbers can be helpful when looking for replacement parts. I picked up these two manuals at auto swap meets. They some times appear for sale on the internet - ebay , etc. Quote
Francois Pelletier Posted April 12, 2019 Author Report Posted April 12, 2019 Thank you guys I cant wait to start working on this project ! Quote
Francois Pelletier Posted April 17, 2019 Author Report Posted April 17, 2019 (edited) The snow has finally melted and I got my proverbial "Barn Find" outside and towed to my place I have now bought a new battery and will know very soon if it still runs For some reason I can't ad any picture to this, I always get a message that says I am allowed 3 meg and I'm trying to post 700k pics so who knows...
